Gidday folks...

been a long time since I posted something useful on here. Hope this video I found makes up for that.

A (google) search on the Hide came up empty, so I doubt it's a repost.

I hope you enjoy some educational video.

Switchblade, Is Betty a BAR?
This brought back lots of memories.
God bless The Pig, she saved me a lot of times.
RVN 69-70 1st.Cav Div.
Our gun was a Maremont[sp] and very well taken care of.
We all knew how to take it down and lube it. Never failed other than a bad round or two that were cleared and on she went about her business.
I think there were other manufactures that were not as reliable.
Does anyone know who all manufactured the M-60?
It was a great, although heavy gun, probably had too many parts but if maintained, was reliable.
I think the troops in the field now have something better,[I hope].
I liked the thread and kind of remember the film, but that was a lot of years ago.
I think the M-60 was designed around a German gun from WWII but am not sure.
Thanks, FM

I was a gunner in the 82nd ABN. I thought it was a kick ASS weapon. Loved the time i used it (1988). Yes it was from a german design, the MG45 I think is what it was.

FG42 and the MG42. The weapon was never as good as the German weapons. I wish I had an FG42 or MG42, there are more of the latter ones. The FG42 would fire from an open bolt or a closed bolt, depending on semi or full auto fire.

Foul Mike-
The current machine gun is the M240- also called the FN MAG. Ironically, the FN MAG is older than the M60 by just a couple years. M240 is both heavier and longer but has a higher rate of fire. Exception to that is the titanium version which ends up about two pounds lighter than the M60.

I like both guns very much; the M60 for it's shorter length and lighter weight, along with a little slower rate of fire make it very nice for controlling. But, the M240 is without a doubt a stronger gun and also more reliable. Oh, and the bipod is on the gun and not the barrel; something that always annoyed me with the M60.
