Magnetospeed barrel cooler

Saw a video recently at a show where magnetospeed had a barrel cooler they were about to release. Can’t find any info on it. Look pretty solid compare to other designs I have seen. Wonder if anyone knows when it is coming out? Also if anyone has any experience with similar devices.

They are already out on prize tables, my cousin got one. It’s nicer than my chamber chiller as my chiller is two halves basically taped together, the kuhl is one piece. It’s the obvious choice.

I've got one of the test models, and I have been really impressed with it. It pushes a LOT of air, battery life is reasonable on a single 123a, and the extending nozzle is genius. The magnet built into the cooler to help hold it in place in a steel action was a nice touch, as well.

The issue I had with the BarrelCool is the fact there is no filter for the fan, allowing dust to get pushed down the barrel. I made my issue known to BarrelCool and they basically told me that I was stupid and no way would that affect anything. Wrong Answer and have been looking at other products ever since. I've tried a few different ones and this new one from MagnetoSpeed is absolutely the ticket. You will buy with confidence when they are released to the public.

If you want something now, I have been using the Caldwell AR15 cooler. When using on a bolt gun I place a plastic tub in the outflow and into the chamber. Works great. Rechargeable and have never outlasted the battery life on a full range day. Great device to have in the hot summers in Houston.

Yeah I read servral bad reviews on the BarrelCool, decided to hold off. Interested to see when and what price the riflekhul will come in at.

That’s absurd they acted like you were crazy about not having a filter on it. Simply logic, who wants to push dirt,dust, etc.... down there Barrel not to mention it will probably end up causing the unit to fail. The biggest complaints I read in the barrelcool was just plain quality and feeling cheap.

How did you guys mangage to get your hands on a prototype?

The MagnetoSpeed product is a huge improvement over another brand of cooler I have used. Better build quality, solid battery life, FAR more compact, and pushes a crapton more air, even with the filter installed.

I use the barrel cooler I mentioned above. My shooting partner and I swear by them. Sorry I don't have any scientific data to add. We are going to continue to use them in the summer heat in Houston.

I read something on the internet that I thought the writer did a pretty good job of testing. Used an IR thermometer and timed the drop in temp. Seems to me from the temp he was calling to in the OAT 6 mins was ideal. Bet Google could find it if you wanted to see something.

Just got mine last week and used it on a range trip Friday. It’s loud but not as load as I thought after reading reviews online and it goes away while people are shooting around you. It pushes a lot of air and I think it made a noticeable change to the chamber temperature. The magnet is a nice touch and keeps the nozzle in the gun chamber. Good product and more than just hype to get you to buy another accessory.

Nope. No need to do that. It is quite secure once placed into the chamber. The magnet works. You can hear it "click" into place in my video.

5-7 minutes with vs 15-20 without for me, running a 6 Creed with a brake and a GAP #6 barrel. My TBAC can cooled down quicker with the RifleKuhl, too, I just pulled the cover back when running the fan.

I've been using the RifleKuehl for a few weeks now and the only good thing I see is it helps flow air in and out of my barrel and suppressor and it works great for rifle ranges that require a safety chamber flag. Do I know if it's working as advertised? No, but any air flow is better than no airflow. I also only use it when I'm at a private range because it is quieter than my air mattress inflator.

When I'm on private land I will only use my air mattress inflator with a high temp silicone-type hose because it pushes ALOT more air than my riflekuehl. I don't use my mattress inflator because it is LOUD! Yes I'm at a gun range and it's already loud but my inflator's noise is not natural so I'm trying to be mindful and polite.

I read an article on the internet where someone took the time to chart the temp of the bbl, the outside air temp, and plotted the temp of the bbl over time. I THINK I remember 6 mins being ideal with time after 6 mins still cooling the bbl but not much per min.

This is a really neat tool for bbl cooling. I am considering getting one and would appreciate some feedback in terms of how to best use the device. For example, I typically shoot .308 and I like to wait a considerable amount of time between shots to save bbl life. How are some of you using this device and is there an operational efficiency for using this and measuring heat at the bbl?

YES!! As a type A guy they are annoying as fuck with the electronic ear-pro, even just one staged next to the briefing in the match.. Imaging 16+ of those when two squads backup or if the range is tight between stations..

Anyway, not sure how much it matters in some events when our guns are sitting after shot for 16 - 25 minutes anyway (squad of 8 x 120sec + shooter make ready and clearing of station).

Great product for bench shooting or practicing, just don't see the value in a most positional match settings..

Ya, but my ear pro shuts down the gun fire.. and really amplifies that frequency.

I think if it was "mine", just like one's own whinny kid, I might not have even thought "Holly shit, thats loud".. But that's was not my kid.

This image is not me (but my gun is staged) had squads staged on both sides.. When shooting it didn't matter, it was just during the stage brief.. but you can see we had a densely packed setup.

I agree with them being annoying for people with electronic ear pro. I was at a match this past weekend where we all thought some type of alarm was going off, until we tracked down the “loud buzzing noise.” I think these might have some use for range work, but I think in a match they probably aren’t necessary. As someone else mentioned- it’s usually 20 minutes or more between strings of fire in most PRS matches.

i bought one, have yet to use it since its not that hot out, but we did have some matches last year where it was 100 degrees, and after 10-12 rounds in under 90 seconds, the barrel was hot even after 20-30 minutes between stages
so we will see this year

I finally took mine to the range this weekend and it works pretty much as expected. Yes the fan is loud and a tad annoying, but it did cool my barrel and suppressor down quicker than if it had just sat there with no airflow. I'll be taking it on a PDog hunt in 3 weeks so it should come in handy.

How about a frog togg cooling towel? I use those dipped in cold cooler water. That combo gets my barrels cooled down I a couple minutes.

A lot of anecdotal "seems to cool the barrel" but only one review of actual time/temp measurements. Considering how we choose heavy barrels to resist heating up, maybe it also resists cooling down?

I had my first encounter with them at a local match this past weekend.

Through my MSA Sordins, they sound EXACTLY like a low rotor RPM horn or a stall horn. ? Annoying as eff, so you can’t ignore them as they try to tell you you’re going to kill yourself if you don’t act fast!

@smoothy8500 so your saying moving air that is considerably cooler through the barrel is not going to cool it down? I’m not sure how big of an actual difference these devices make but if it saves me any time I am happy. When it is 100+ degrees out and I’m working up a load I will take any time savings. I’m waiting on two of my guns to get back from the smith and will have 4 barrels to do load development on in late June and July in Texas. I typically leave my truck running with ac on to speed up cooling the barrel down but now I will use this as well which should help even further. Even if you leave it outside, any air that is cooler than the barrel itself is going to help it, perhaps not much but it will some.

The only matches I would use this at would be the matches where it is 100+ degrees, other than that I am not worried about it.

I’ll take a hot barrel over an amplified mosquito in my ear all day . I can’t stand the sound of these things at matches with my msa’s on , sounds like feedback.
Haven’t experienced that with other coolers,
I think if they could get a quiet fan it would be much better.
