Sort of my specialty...restoration and making new repairs/parts match the patina of the original gun. I also like to take new guns and turn them into vintage replicas. Here is a brand new Pioneer Arms AK Sporter that I have aged into a good copy of a Vietnam era AKM. The stock, pistol grips, and handguard are original period items.

That looks good. I dinosaured this thing a while back. Something about the “used” look just does it for me. View attachment 8031452View attachment 8031453
Isn‘t reloading Brass Shot Shells so much fun? Nice job an the well used look on your Trench gun.

One way that I was told (and tried) to distress wood furniture is to remove it from the firearm, wrap each piece in several layers of burlap and go 4x4ing with the parts bouncing around in the back. Not bad, but I was repairing chips on the but plate interface and the ends of the fore-end.

    Thanks.

I didn’t reload those, they came in a commemorative box of WW2 stuff. Not sure I want to get into brass shell loading.

Am I really gonna be the first to say it's called BFPU & it's really a AK thing? I usually think it's stupid because it looks like somebody with too much time on their hands took steel wool & scratched everything up. But yours looks OK, at least you hit all the high spots & it aint real obvious. Also needs more idiot scratch. Sadly, ya lost me at "Pioneer"... But that solid hardwood grip is worth a bit. Got any more of them? I could use a few. Solid hardwood AK furniture is at a premium nowadays.

See my threads here... it's not hard at all!

    But beware Balloon Head cases.

I'll gladly help you out. Because brass cases (with brass dies) are awesome.

And give a great range of loading options.

Hitting it with a big key ring is not a bad start....

Keys f.... Up wood stocks bigtime.

PS. Our state motto, translated from Latin is "Antiques made and sold." So I have some experience here ;-)

Yours looks Chinese to me, but maybe OG Rus. Anything Russian or Chinese today will be expensive. Especially solid hardwood grips, even early Romanian. Hope ya got that pistol grip cheap, looks great! Overall, looks good. Good job. But, seriously... Pioneer? That's worse than an I.O. Like... the High Point of the AK world.

Isn’t the AK already the High Point of the AK world??

    I know, right?!

I.O. sucked so bad, they blew up. Pioneer is modern commercial stuff made in Poland, not even old ex-military Polish mil-surp (which is top quality). Sort of like Century Arms made crap.

I've had no problem with Pioneer AK's, they've all functioned flawlessly. Also, say what you will about Hi-Point, they always go bang. But, It is fun to make fun of them. I actually bought the cheapest hi-point I could find...$50...and did some mods to it like barrel porting, slide lightening, Cerakote, custom grips, and trigger/action job. The Hi-Point has a fixed barrel attached to the frame which makes it incredibly accurate, far better than any other production firearm. Here's a video

And others have done the same :

Oh, shit. I'm ready out-gunned & out-classed. I'll STFU now. And go back to drinking home brew Missouri corn.

    Videos are... superb.

Here's a few oldies but goodies.

You do great work, great. In the guitar world it is called Relic-ing. And it is a very, as in VERY hot topic....so hot is is not "allowed" on some sites.

Some people see it as "fake". Wear the guitar did not "earn". Same could be said about anything.

Personally I have little issue with it as long it is not passed along as being something it is not.
