Take a look at Valdada Recon G2. It is NOT made by IOR in Romania. The G2 is very different from the 3-18 and from the Recon from years past. It has German glass and is made in Japan. I think it's the best of both worlds. I have used my in 6 PRS matches this year, shot thousands of rounds and travelled tens of thousands of miles with it. I set my zero in June and haven't touched it since. My Recon G2 has been the most reliable scope I have ever owned.

Sounds a bit fishy with German glass and made in Japan.
The Japanese got excellent glass(just check Nightforce, March and a ton of others ), and is probably a bit cheaper too, due to the shipping, export/import, taxes and stuff.

The lenses come from Schott. The Japanese glass is very nice. Carl Zeiss makes Schott glass and is regarded among the best lenses in the world. I don't think it is fishy for a company to source the best components of the most important part of a scope. Japan has great manufacturing practices and is probably a bit cheaper than Europe. I don't think any of us could go wrong with either of the scopes mentioned.
Which Schott location? They make stuff in Germany, US, Korea, China and a few other places.
Carl Zeiss does not make Schott glass. They are part of the same industrial conglomerate.

I reached out to Valdada. I was told that the glass is manufactured in Germany. “100% if the G2 is manufactured in Germany and Japan. Nothing is subcontracted from China, Taiwan, the Phillipines or anywhere else. Japan and Germany only.”

Your Swarovski rep does not know what he is talking about.
As for the "Japan and Germany" story, there are a couple of points to consider aside from the efficacy of the source. The most important one is that when you buy a piece of glass from Schott Germany, it could have been made in a Schott factory anywhere in the world. Some of the more interesting glass types can not even be made in Germany at all due to environmental regulations, so they are made in China or a few other places.
Ultimately, none of that matters. If you order a particular glass melt from any of the reputable glass makers, you will get exactly what you ordered, whether you are ordering from Schott or Ohara or Kyocera or ....
