gday ,
i recently purchased a leupold mark 4 3-10 x 40 m3 for my barrett 98 bravo. i have to wait a month or so until it arrives being in australia and all... im just after anyone with experience with the m3 turrets and how they have utilised them and what they found effective for long range shooting . im new to civilian shooting however i have had a fair bot of experience long range shooting in the army.
anyway any pictures would also be helpful.
thanks.

Re: mark 4 leupold with m3 turrets

If you chose the m3 turret scope, they are calibrated for three types of bullets.308 ,223, and 300wm. i recommend you call Leupold to see if theyll make you a custom dial for your caliber, otherwise id change the scope for an m1 which is .25 moa adjustments, unlike the m3 which is 1moa elevetion adjustment. The m3 is a good scope aslong as your ok with the 1 moa adjustment which means your turret will have set range in yds to dial to.I find the m3 turret scope is faster to get on target ,but lacks the fine adjustment needed for precision shooting.I like both scopes,on my 308 Dpms Sass that is a 1 moa rifle, i have the Mk4 M3 and on my m40a1 clone which is a .25 moa rifle, i have the mk4 m1 turret scope.

Re: mark 4 leupold with m3 turrets

ok thanks for the help ,
have shot with 338 lm on a schmidt and bender with dutch snipers that had 1/2 moa clicks , seemed to be easy enough out to 1600metres. it will be more used for longer range shooting ... figured i would mark the ranges on the top of the turret myself ? have seen it done again on a schmidt and bender 3-12x50 pm2 ...
any other ideas?

I don't even pay attention to the yardage marks that are given on the M3 dials. I just crank on the needed MOA that I've documented for that range. If you are shooting at silhouette sized targets, I think the M3 works out just fine. They are good scopes from my experience with them.

yeah thats fair enough , a couple of dutch blokes i was shooting with did the same thing , the scope they were using had yardage marks for a .308 , they use 338 lapua , so the just taped over the yardage marks and wrote thier own in .. worked very well ...very quick
