Just wondering if there is others out there with this little .22 mag and love it. I also want to know what your thoughts are on it and if there are any issues.

I bought mine at least 12 years ago, maybe even more like 14. It's a great little bolt action .22 mag that's perfect for plinking and hunting. I would say small game, but I have actually even taken a 4 point buck with it at 100 yards, dropping it right where it stood (probably shouldnt have divulged that much info lol) My most impressive shot with it though, I shot a crow at just over 200 yards with, drilling the bastard right through the chest. Those 34 grain jacket hollow point EXPLODE turning any small prey into hundreds of little pieces, its epic. Shooting birds looks like an m80 went off in a feather pillow.

Though it has been a good gun, it is far from a great gun. The accuracy was far from what I would call acceptable. I always had it zeroed at 100 and I would be lucky if it ever shot 2 MOA. The stock is a hollow flimsy POS and the trigger feels like it came off a musket. Looking at the muzzle crown, I noticed its off center with more of the turn down being on one side than the other. I would get it recrowned but I'm sure the barrel is shot out. Looking down the barrel I see lots of wear as I'm sure there is thousands and thousands of rounds down her.

Anyway, just seeing what others think and if they have any upgrades and if you do, please tell me where and how as I would like to slowly rebuild some life back into this old girl.

I have one that I inherited from my Dad. I have put one box of shells through it, and I bet my Dad did not put more than 2-3 boxes through it. This one is a laminated stocked rifle and is probably 7 - 8 years old.

It seems like it could probably be a pretty good shooter with a little work. I have not pulled the action out of the stock, but I bet pillar bedding the stock and bedding the action would be a good place to start. The trigger is easily an 8-10 pound pull. I guess I need to look into a timney or rifle basix trigger for it.

I am looking forward to seeing what others have to say about this little rifle.

Id replace the stock, bed it and drop a rifle basix trigger into it. On a side note, 22 mag is a copper jacketed bullet and needs to be cleaned as tho it was a centerfire (which many dont recognize it as such) and with a good cleaning with foaming cleaner, it should become quite the shooter.

I did a google search on the 882 trigger pull. I found a lot of links just about the trigger. I looked at 2-3 different ones that told how to reduce the pull to between 2.5-4 pounds.

Rifle basix sells a trigger that can be adjusted to between 1-2 1/2 pounds.

I saw the rifle basix for sale and was thinking about it, the tough one was a stock and barrel. Assuming the barrel is still good, ill try cleaning the shit out of it but I bet it still is not a good shooting barrel. I definately didn't clean it enough. It's copper fowled so bad the grooves are dissappearing in some spots.

Anyone have ideas on who would make a stock for it?

Let me wake this sucker up...

Here is the 882SSV as she was when I bought her new in 1999 (and a tack driver then):

After a lot of mods for personal preference, now its darn right scary accurate... problem is I started changing stuff around 2009 and cannot remember all the specifics. I still need to do some playing at the range but at 200yds in a snowstorm I had little trouble running 15rds as fast as I could into a 6" plate with Win FMJ.

me likey mine

clean your barrel out, really good with copper remover, that may get out some of your gunk. there is so much new .22mag types of ammo out there (if not sold out) that perhaps yours doesn't like the 34 grainers anymore. champions choice lead / copper remover cleans pretty well.

i did a bic pen spring swap out with my brother in laws, you can try that first if you don't want to spend much. advanced search "marlin 882 trigger job"

my brother in laws:

the best upgrade to these is a rifle basix trigger, originally mine was soso, trigger in it improved it (well the operators trigger squeeze) like if it was a new rifle.
