Hey all,

A buddy of mine let me buy his Marlin 925 off him for $50. He shot it two or three times (maybe 20-30 rnds total) but really wanted a Ruger 10/22. So he put it in his closet and totally forgot about it until he was moving.

I haven't shot it yet, but would like to get into some RF practice (times are tough). Is this a decent shooter or should I look more at getting another rim fire bolt action?

I'll take it out this weekend and find out how well it shoots, but just wanted to get some opinions.

Thanks!

Re: Marlin 925

I'm hoping to get it out to the range this next weekend to test it out. there isn't a lot of info on it online, so we'll see what I'll do with it. From what I've read about marlin, it should be a shooter, but only the target will tell.

LOL, beat me to it.

I have had a 925 and I still own my 25N. The 25N I bought with snow shoveling money when I was 10 years old, I still take it to the range very often and shoot it from 200-400yd.

I got rid of the 925 for no other reason than I didn't need a duplicate anymore.

You'll be happy with it. The trigger is about 8lbs of sand but there's some easy ways to clean it up and make it much more useable. You can also spend about $80 to put a riflebasix on it. I chose the polishing stone and bic pen spring.

These rifles have "micro-groove" rifling in them and will function properly with the Super Colibri ammo. From the rifle it makes as much noise as my dad's suppressed pistol with SS ammo. Makes for great ammo to keep pests out of the yard. Most rifles will stick the bullet with it because it's so low power.

Re: Marlin 925

I love my 925, and I noticed that the barrel is heavier than savage standard rimfire barrels, which is cool. I need a scope for it though...

Re: Marlin 925

I started having problems with my marlin. The bolt seems to be shaving metal from the receiver with every rack of the bolt. I'll see if I can take a pic and post it. The point where it's impacting the receiver is when the bolt is locked, where the bolt handle meets the bolt.

Bolt lift would get heavier and heavier. Any thoughts?

Re: Marlin 925

any pictures yet? my brother in law had a similar situation going, i slightly bent down the "prong" thing that the bolt rides on that is located inside the receiver in back of the magazone well.

i guess it was pushing the bolt over enough to cause resistance and shaving metal.

i don't know if it's the same deal your having, but perhaps worth a try.

You should be able to use any 3/8 dovetail (or tip off) rings made for .22's.

My 25 isn't drilled and tapped like the newer models, if it was I would get the following scope base from Rimfire Technologies for it...

Re: Marlin 925

I had a 925 for awhile. Crappy trigger from the factory, but it shot great. The trigger was an easy fix. I polished everything I could and then tried an old trick a friend told me about. I replaced the trigger return spring with a spring from a Bic pen. I got the trigger to about 2 1/2 or 3lbs doing this.

Re: Marlin 925

I bought one today for 125. Has had about fifty rounds through it. Can't wait to get the barrel threaded. A local dealer has some YHM suppresers in stock. I suspect I'll have my name on one of those next. Definetly going work on the trigger. It sucks.

Re: Marlin 925

I like my 925 so much I'm going to buy another next week. I'm still looking to up grade the factory sights on mine as I'm trying to get a way from scopes and back to open iron and peep sights.

Re: Marlin 925

Hey guys,

I wanted to post some pics of the metal shaving issue I'm having. What are your thoughts?

You can see in the first pic where the metal is being shaved down.

The second is on the bolt handle.

Re: Marlin 925

Is the bolt stiff when cycled? I ran into a similar problem with my 925 until I lubed the inside of the bolt body and the cocking ramp. That made the bolt lift much easier and the lug quit shaving metal.

Re: Marlin 925

What you are seeing is the lug for the bolt. All bolt rifles have these, most are internal and unseen during normal operation. On your model, it is visible and operating normally. It will "wear in" after a while and become a non-issue. Think of it as lapping the lug. It will benefit from a dab of grease there as will all bolt rifles. Don't sweat it, it's no big deal. If it bothers you though, don't hesitate to sell it to me cheap.

Re: Marlin 925

LOL Thanks Austan. Very nice of you to offer to buy it. haha

The only reason it worried me was because it shot fine, cycled great and then over the course of about 20 rounds got so stiff that I couldn't open the bolt. I jerked it open cleared it for the ride home so that I could try to figure it out. It cycles fine now and all I've done is clean it.

That is what was happening with mine and oiling the cocking ramp and the inside of the bolt cured this problem. The bolt cycles very easily now
