I have an opportunity to buy an XT-22 from a friend that is selling some of his guns due to a divorce. So I was wondering if anybody here owns one, and what kind of accuracy I could expect from it. I know it is a cheap rifle, but I have heard some people say that Marlins can be quite accurate.
It has a Nikon 4x32 scope and is practically new in the box.

Re: Marlin XT-22

i have an 880sq that im certain would shoot against more expensive .22s all day. i have more improvements planned but as it is right now: re-worked trigger, tacticool stock, dip 25moa base, b-square 30mm low rings, falcon 4-14 FFP mil/mil. having a oversized bolt knob turned and will have it tig welded on. also planning on bedding rifle at some point. i do not shoot groups. i have no problem busting bowling pins 200-240 yards with cheap 550 bulk box ammo.

Re: Marlin XT-22

There is nothing wrong at all with any of the Marlins I have. As far as plinking and informal target compitition goes, mine do just fine. Some guys I know have over 1,000 dollars wrapped up in their rigs, but that is not for me in a .22. If you are looking for extreme accuracy in a .22 rifle, then you will have to spend more money, but for fun you can't beat a Marlin or Savage. JMHO.

Re: Marlin XT-22

Well I have read on some other forums that some people has had problems with the XT's, like stocks that don't align properly, poor fit and finish etc. Basically there are some folks saying that the XT-22's are junk.
Considering what I have heard, I told my friend to brng the rifle over last night so I could look at it. It has a synthetic / plastic stock but it passed the dollar bill test and did not touch the barrel anywhere except where it connects to the receiver. The finish looked good, and it functioned perfectly. I loaded and fired it and it fed and functioned perfectly with cheap 22 ammo. Since it was dark, I couldn't get a measure on accuracy, so that will come later.
I figured that for 200 dollars, ( retail price ), you cannot really expect Anschutz quality, and some of the rifles ar going to sneak past QC with flaws due to low profit margins.
So the bottom line is, if this little rifle will hold an inch or less at 50 yards, it was worth the 150 dollars I paid for it. After all, it has a Nikon Rimfire scope on it that is worth 100 dollars, and since the rifle and scope are both less than 2 months old, I got the rifle for 50 dollars,( $150 for both ).
It seems that I got an XT-22 that has no flaws whatever, and it is definately worth what I gave for it.
From what i have read, if you do decide to buy a Marlin XT, look at it very closely before you buy it. The iron sights are junk, but at least for my rifle, everything else looks good, and I am only going to use a scope, so the sights doesn't matter anyhow.
Check stock alignment, and for flaws, ( machine marks ) on the barrel. From what I gather, around 1 out of 10 rifles will have flaws that were missed by QC.
By the way, the Pro Fire trigger is really nice with no creep, and it is adjustable to boot. It feels very comparable to the Savage accutrigger, I really like the trigger!
