I am looking at a marlin in .17hm2, and was wondering what people were using for scope mounts. I am looking at a DIP dovetail to weaver mount, or a one piece Dovetail mount. SOme people that use the 717 have complained about the normal dovetail rings sliding back, like an airgun's rings would. TO combat it, airgunners use one piece mounts with more surface area to grip. I can't argue with the price either. What are other dovetailed Marlin owners using?

Re: Marlins with Dovetails

I got weaver mounts myself, and would steer anybody that way. The wider mounts provide a much harder and more steady grip for the rings. I do not have a rail. I have two mounts. Each one screws into the top of the reciever. I have to say they're really nice and I got them at walmart for like $5, but they are Weaver brand mounts. You can see them in my pics.

I used some steel Millet Angle-Locs on my 880SQ for a while. I never had a problem with them shifting at all. I only took them off because I'm selling the rifle. They are going on a Lakewood MKII project I'm working on next. I'm perfectly happy with them.

I use these as well on both my Marlin 22's. They work very well and it's nice having the windage adjustment capability. I've knocked them around, bumped the rifle, etc etc etc and they are still GTG.

You can't beat the price either at appx $20/pair.
