Mauser 30.06

I’ve had this rifle for a long time. I believe my dad had either put this together or bought it not sure which. I believe it’s a Mauser in 30.06. Curious if this action is a candidate for building a custom rifle in another caliber ?? It’s always been a great shooter but the stock is rough and I’m not crazy about 30.06. I have another post about getting into bench/ varmint shooting. Wondering if I could use this to make that happen ???

Why not keep it as a dedicated larger game hunting rig and build something else up from scratch so you can keep that one that your father built as is?

Go buy a Tikka T3X in whatever it is you are wanting to shoot and you'll be way ahead cost wise. (Average cost $800 and up).
Or buy yourself a custom action and build up exactly what you want (Probably at least $2k and up by the time you are done).

That's a FN commercial market Mauser. One of the better ones. It can be anything based on a 30-06 case head. That said, keep it as is and build something else. It looks to be in really good condition and you can get a howa/tikka/salvage/remington and do what you want cheaper and easier. Or build of a Arc/origin/Mac bros and start from scratch.
