Maxpedition Versa Pack ?

I am looking at buying one of these bags to carry instead of carrying a backpack. The Jumbo LEO OR EDC versions, it really doesn't matter.

What do you guys think about these bags? Being Right Handed...What side would you wear them on? The reason I ask is that it seems they are built for wearing on the right hip, but for use as a bag equipped with ammo and gear suited for the precision rifleman...I would assume you would wear it on your left hip for easy access with your rifle in your right hand or proned out. What say you?

They are made to be worn on your right side. You would need to go for the "S type" to have the strap oriented for left side wear. It could still work, but might not ride well.

Other than that, it's not going to carry nearly as much, as well as a backpack. It will slide in front of you when you are moving vigorously and bounce more than a pack when you run.

Maxpedition makes nice stuff, but their man purses will never replace a back pack. They work out great as a bail out bag in between you legs on the floor board of your vehicle, or an EE bag lashed to the outside of your pack. I would not fight out of one unless I had to.

They are nice bags but a backpack is more stable and comfortable with heavier loads. I wouldn't try to go over about 5-10 lbs in a versapack.

I have the S-version which rides on my left side.

I love mine. I usually don't wear it on my left hip, but let it slide back to my lower back where it acts as a regular backpack. It can also serve the role as a chestrig.

Great rangebag and all, but it's too small to fight out of, imho.

I have the jumbo, and I love it. Comments above apply, but I'll add one thing. Mine is the left side version, but I carry it on either side depending on my mood or whatever else I'm doing. I'm sure the righty version could be carried either way also.

Mine was purchased for use as a carry-on and a not too dorky diaper bag and a man purse. In those roles, it works great. I've also tried using it in place of a back pack and a range bag, and there it doesn't work well at all.

+1 on the jumbo. I use it to go hiking and just around town. Big enough to carry just what you need but not to big that its a hassle to wear.

ETA: Plus you cant go wrong with Maxpedition
