I would look into a BAT machine or Surgeon. McMillan are great rifles but usually if you are going to do a McMillan it is already built. If you're in Phoenix, check out Bruno's, they have a good amount of BAT machine receivers and you can compare them to the McMillan.

Its a complete 30-06 just wantig to rebarrel it in a caliber.I have a 6.5x284 barrel on a starndard rem long action and want to spin it on the mcmillian any ideas if this will work?

It will depend on many factors you have not listed.
Lug thickness, Headspace depth, thread specs etc...
A gunsmith would need to take both guns apart and measure everything.
At that point, adjustments or a rechambering can be done.

Not sure I'd want to spend the effort and $$ to put a used 6.5x284 barrel on a new custom action.
McM actions are very nice.

We've put a few McMillans together for builds and in every instance they were good pieces to build off of.
I don't think it's a bad move.

They are great actions, early JAFRR's and are 18TPI so a remington take off will be a no-go. I own 6 of their guns and wouldnt hesitate on a build based off of them either

I have rebarreled and rebuilt several dozen over the last few years. Some repeatedly (meaning they are having the snot shot out of them). They are very solid and accurate. Very uniform machining and threads. Full contact lugs with good cam geometry going into the lug seats and the primary extraction cam on the rear of the receiver.

Messed with a tac 50 one time, from the factory the stock needed clearanced for the mag to fit and the scope rail was tweeked. Not a good first impression IMO
