Rifle Scopes Measurments?

looking through all the posts on previous questions I could not find this. I recently bought an IOR 3.5-18x50 FFP MIL-MIL it has adjustments in 1/10 mil and since i zeroed it in at 100 i can't get a full revelotion on the turrit. What is the measurement of a 1/10 mil? Based on MOA i would need 35.6 MOA to shoot 1000 yard with my .308 what would I need for 1000 yards for my mil scope? I have movement up to 8.5 mil on my IOR?

Bill,

If you have the new 3-18x50mm, I believe the source of your problem may be the zero stop.

If that's not it, here's what to check:

1/10 MIL is 0.36" @ 100 yds
1 MIL = 3.6" @ 100 yds
Your scope should have 22 MILS ( about 80") of adjustment.
that's 11 mils up and 11 mils down.
If you are using a 20 MOA base (5.5 MILS) you should have near 16.5 MILS up, and 5.5 MILS down left.
If you need 35.6 MOA to reach 1000 yds, then:
35.6 x 1.047 = 37.3"
37.3" / 3.6" = 10.4 MILS

so if I'm reading this correct I have to move 12.6 mils and I only have 8.5 mils of movement?

I think it's more likely that he doesn't have an inclined base on the rifle - and will need one.

No, you have a zero stop, have you engaged and used it properly?

Yes, that's also very possible, hard to tell with no information from the OP on the base used.

I have the zero stop and have engaged it properly. but Yes i do have a 0 incline on my base as well. So I will need a 20 MOA base to get to the proper adjustments?

Bill,

A 20 MOA base will give you another 5.5 MILS of elevation, and raise you to 14 MILS. More than enough for your 308 to reach 1Kyds.

If all you can get is 8.5 mil from your zero, yes, you're going to need a 20 MOA base. Actually, 10 would do, but you might as well get a 20, which isn't too much.

The last example of this scope I saw did not have enough elevation to go to 1000 yards, shooting at Quantico; with a 20 MOA base, shooting Black hills 175's.

Did you guys check the amount of travel the scope had when not mounted? Something was either wrong with the scope or the mounts. With a 20 MOA base the scope should have 14-15 Mils of up travel at least.

One thing that can happen with these is if the zero stop screws are cranked down hard (even from the factory) it can make a rough spot in the travel where the knob gets hung up. If that’s the case, you just turn a little harder and you get past that spot. It goes away quickly with some use, but when I first got mine I thought the travel was extremely limited because of this, so it’s something to check out.
