A buddy of mine who does a lot of work on ARs sent me a link to this shop. This company designed an upper/lower 308 combo that is compatible with most custom AR build parts whether they're Armalite or DPMS. Obviously this is an attractive prospect since it opens up more options for building a 308 rig.

I was interested if anyone else had heard of these folks and how likely it is that they can deliver on their pre-production promises. I don't know the specifics of why DPMS and Armalite patterns have been mutually exclusive, but with the vast knowledge on the Hide, I'm sure someone can chime in about whether a receiver set could be designed to accomodate both designs well.

Re: Mega Arms Ma-Ten receivers

Just to clarify the "compatibility" issues...the MA-TEN's were designed to accept EITHER DPMS or ARMALITE barrels/bolts. Aside from that...they are DPMS/KAC pattern all the way. They will ONLY accept DPMS/KAC/Magpul pattern mags, handguards, etc.

That said...they are NICE receivers and worth the money. I believe that Rainier Arms and some other companies are running intro pricing on upper/lower sets for $499 which is a STEAL considering what you are getting for the money.

Re: Mega Arms Ma-Ten receivers

This is encouraging news. I've been planning an 308 gas gun build that I can slowly work on as I get extra cash here and there. The fact that I can use a Noveske barrel but go with the DPMS mag system is really attractive.

Re: Mega Arms Ma-Ten receivers

The deal at Rainers has me really thinking about a 6.5 Creedmore build. Do you gain any performance with this set over a dpms or armalite set? Do they offer anymore strength for hanging a 26-28" barrel off the front?

I missed that...thanks for the heads-up! If you are looking to build a semi-auto 308 (or large-caliber AR platform rifle), and you can get that receiver set for even less money than the $499 that Rainier is offering, then you'd be crazy not to jump on the deal. You can't touch anything else on the AR-10 type market for anywhere close to that price.

Thanks for the heads up. I just pm'ed krayon.

Re: Mega Arms Ma-Ten receivers

I've used Mega upper and lower receivers to build two AR15s and they were great. I've seen and felt their billet receivers and they are very well made. You won't regret building on them.
