Re: MIA and RE-15
On to the crap stated above....
M1A's are quite ACCURATE, they just aren't very PRECISE. Keep in mind when shooting 1000 yard comp's through the CMP and NRA, the shooter's aren't aiming at a small target. And that distance is pushing the limits on a .308 period. Don't care what rifle, what action, what barrel. It's a long haul for the round.
I've got an M1A with NM contour barrel, but no bedding, and after going through a long trial and mostly error period, countless factory offerings, and a few hand loads, I've determined that while the gun doesn't print a spectacular group at 100 yards, it's still VERY effective beyond that range. We've been dancing 2-liters and milk jugs all the way out to 500 yards. Took some time to get a proper round lined out, but once it was, the platform is awesome. Very easy on maintenance, so far.

My first hand loads. Not bad for having no clue what I was doing, through a gun built in the 1980's with who knows how many rounds through it. I've since moved on to RE-15 with a 178 gr AMAX, best group posted above. No, it's not a bolt gun, and no, it was never intended to be. And honestly yes, if a SuperMatch is NOT printing good groups it's either an ammo compatibility problem, or a finger problem.
