Rifle Scopes Mil turret clicks

I am new to LR shooting. A 1/4" click scope moves POI 1/4" @ 100, 1/2" @ 200, 3/4" @ 300. Does a Mil scope work in the same manner? I understand Mil scopes are 1/3" @ 100. So is the Mil scope 2/3" @ 200 Etc.... I have the SS 5-20x50 & like it alot.

Its like learning another language. In the beginning you translate the moa to inches to mils back to inches etc. To really grasp the concept you have to think in mils. FFP reticle on target, take shot, impact 1 mil up, adjust 1 mil. Done.
Ranging a deer, 5 mils shoulder to brisket, he's at 100Y, 1 mil, he's at 500Y.

Whether MOA/MOA or MIL/MIL, thinking in terms of "inches" is just adding extra unnecessary complication. People do it with MOA scopes because they are comfortable with inches in daily life, and MOA happens to be sorta-kinda-close to IPHY...

...but why convert to a linear unit of measurement that you then have to multiply by some number based on range just to get to a number that you then have to correlate to the size of what you are looking at down range to estimate the relative value of?

Whether MOA or MIL (assuming FFP or SFP at its calibrated power), you have a ruler right there in front of your face in a convenient angular unit of measurement that is always "right" no matter what range the target is at. All you have to do is look and you have a measurement in the unit that is most relevant to the task at hand.

Once somebody figures that out, it really comes down to whether you like big numbers and fractions (MOA), or smaller numbers with decimal points (MIL).

Don't think of moa and mils as measurements of distance, that only complicates things. Use your reticle as a ruler, if your bullet hits 3 mils too low, adjust for three mils, don't think of it as 10.8 inches, trying to translate that measurement into mils will take more time than simply using your reticle, and in competitions and field work, that little bit of time might be necessary.

Roggom thanks for the reply. So 1 click on a Mil scope is 0.1 or 1/10th of a mil regardless of the range. Correct? I want to start thinking in Mils. That is what I was attempting to do today by using my reticle, but I keep looking @ the 1" squares on the target. Thank you for the link. Brubo

You are correct, it will be 1/10 of a mil regardless of how far you're shooting, just range with you're reticle and adjust.

Lots of good articles/classes online about mils. Just about every scope manufacturer has an online manual as well.

Yes, as long as you are using a mil reticle as a reference. As Matt stated, a FFP or a SFP at the correct power setting. Storm tac has some free printable targets that are graduated in Mils. Will make practice much easier. http://stormtactical.com/stu.htm

They are both angular measurements.
MOA is finer, Mil is base 10.
Most prefer Mils.
If you go to a match, 99% will be giving come ups and windage in mils
