Now that I have almost chosen a scope I have noticed two types of "accepted" scope reticles. One being MOA and one being Mill. After searching around the forum I still have no definite answer on what to pick. However then my dad mentioned something.

Is not the main difference between MOA and Mill just a different set of calculations one must preform in order to guesstimate range/holdover? IE. One Mill at 1000 yards is 36" correct? And one MOA at 1000 yards is 10"? Does not holdover work the same rather it be hold over 1 mill left and 2 down or 3 MOA left and 4 MOA down (those numbers are not accurate, just for point).

So is it not just a matter of picking a reticle and learning how to use it or am I overlooking a major point in this ongoing discussion?

Another quicky, FFP stands for Front Focal Plane and SFP is Second Focal Plane correct?

Re: Mill VS MOA very quick Q

Right now my budget allows for 1500ish dollar scope so I am looking at Nightforce 5.5-22 power scope, unsure of what model this is. I just know I can get a new one for 1600 and that is close enough. Thx for the links I will look at them now.

Re: Mill VS MOA very quick Q

So it seems that all it is is another math equation, not as big of a deal as It seemed to be made out to be. And yes I do plan to use Mil/mil, however I though I should ask. Also I feel I should ask, FFP means the Reticle will not change when altering power of the scope, SFP means the Reticle will change, does this F with the Values of MOA and Mil? (I have not searched for this yet I will do so in a few minitues).

Thank you, Connor

Re: Mill VS MOA very quick Q

short answer yes. An FFP reticle subtends the same amount of distance at any power, granted it looks tiny when on low power and big on high powers, but it is covering the same amount of the target on any power. A SFP reticle is normal correctly measured on the highest power, the reticle doesnt change sizes in relation to you looking through the scope but it does change as to how much of the target its covering, and therefore the values of spacing in the reticle change

Re: Mill VS MOA very quick Q

In an FFP scope the reticle will subtend across all of the magnification settings. The reticle will appear to get larger as the magnification is increased.

With a SFP scope the reticle will only subtend correctly at one specific power setting.
