i want to get a bipod for it but theres no where to put it. is there one on the market that clamps to the barrel?

Because clamping $#IT to your barrel will DEFINITELY improve your accuracy!!
Don't go doing anything as stupid and clamping something to your barrel...it really will screw up your rifle's accuracy. Install a proper swivel stud on the forend of the stock, put a Harris bipod on your rifle and be done with it.

You can put a stud in the forearm that will work okay. Or you can get a bipod adapter made by Harris specifically for the mini 14. I have one and it works okay. Here's a link to them.

Which target rifle do you have, the synthetic stock or the laminate thumbhole? They definitely are more accurate than the standard mini 14.

Actually, the target variants are capable of MOA accuracy (I know...I know)...but they are a VAST improvement over the rack grade ranch rifles.
Also, you might want to get with Harris before going the #14 adapter route because I don't know that it will work with the target rifle without modification.

One of these days I'm going to run some of my best match handloads, the ones my Savage varminter and AR love, in my iron sighted mini-14 to see what it is capable of with good quality ammuniton. It's always been 2-3 MOA with 55 gr ball and never a failure of any kind.
It's an older model, bought new in 1986, stainless, wood stocked and never regretted the decision.
I believe I'd have stayed with the laminate stock rather than that fixed, composite thing you have there, but adding sling swivels, and a sling should be your first order of business once you bolt that on.
The barrel vibration dampener on the target model takes some getting used to from an aesthetic perspective.

OR...ditch the Choate altogether and use the couple bucks you get for it toward the smithing work needed to install the swivel.
The Choate stocks are really good for beater/truck guns, but if you want to shoot accurately with your Target Mini...the laminated thumbhole stock is a FAR BETTER setup.

don't give up on your mini. There are many inexpensive mods you can do yourself to get your older mini's and the new 580 mdls to shoot moa or better. Historicly the mini 14 are not very accurate, but after adding a homemade barrell strut (see perfectunion.com) doing a trigger job on it 3#, glass bedding/floating gasblock, 1911 buffers and a reduced gas bushing, total cost less than 100 dollars and about 15 hrs of labor my series 196 mini ranch will shoot groups of about .875 at 100 with 75 grain hand loads. Jeff

When I had my mini, this site, Perfect Union, answered any questions that I had. There is a bunch of info about them there. Good luck!
You could always get the Accu-Strut, then attach the bipod to that. I've seen a lot of people do that.

Definitely not saying give up on it. There are camo colored laminate stocks out there. There's a guy who makes a5 type laminates. Russo I think is his handle on some board. Google A5L stock and you'll find plenty of threads. He can make you one. Buy a cheapo take off factory stock to send him for the inletting. If your plastic stock is a choate its a good stock. If I get another mini I'm gonna put it in one of those. Also stick with ruger mags for reliability.
