First let me tell you about me and what i do with my AR. I'm fifty two,been shooting for many years but in no competitions.i started off with aimpoints,then when i wanted magnification i went to ACOG's..Small magnification seems perfect for a AR to me..its a fast handling rifle and quick to deploy from 0-300 yds. To much magnification and your hunting for that sweet spot to long.
As my eyes went south i could no longer use the ACOG's because they were too blurry..i needed something with a focus knob.
Thats about the time the 1-4x's were coming out..i think i bought them all,except for ol' high dollar S&B..And i sold them all for varying reasons..First i think i want hold overs in the reticule, then i change my mind and i want a clearer sight picture so i go with BDC turrets, then of course a new flavor of the week comes out and i think..OK..this will be the last scope...NOT!!So i sell my latest:i had 2 ior 3x25's..one for my M&P 22 and one for my AR..nice light weight scopes..
i buy the new Leupold VX-R firedot in the 1.25-4x..what i'm thinking is i'll put this on the .22 and when Meopta comes out with their new Tactical K-dot, i'll get that..cause i'm really missing a bright lit up reticle..
so the leupold comes in..i throw it on a
ADM mount and put it on the AR to see how she feels...well, what do you know,someone finally got it right..great reticule.. (for me anyhow)...its a circle-dot..and when you turn on the illumination you get this little red dot that shines very brightly..even at midday in the hot central valley of calif. sun..the glass is not IOR or USO great but it's ok..I think it has a diopter of +3 to -3..kinda would like more,like IOR's +4 to -4, but after all the scope is under $400.00..I did the 50/200yd zero, cause i rarely shoot past that anyhow..So i dont need hold over marks on my scope and i don't need BDC turrets..these are capped..so set them and forget them..i'm happy knowing every thing will be hit from 0-200yds as long as i keep the very bright dot on it..for those considering a - $400.00 scope..you should check these out!!
Now here's what i'd like to know..If leupold and i guess Burris with the Tac-30 can give you good useable daytime illumination how come companys like IOR,USO,NIGHTFORCE,etc....can't??
