Mk 12 mod 0 6 ARC

I kicked this around with a 6mm AR or Turbo or FatRat instead of going to a large frame a couple years ago. Not as much energy on target at distance but similar trajectory and wind and WAY cheaper to shoot (or it was) with a 90gr and a lighter load of Varget/rl15/4895. It’s been done by others. You’d have to run an AEM5-30, which is longer than the AEM5 but you’re not going to be clone correct anyway so it’ll be damn close. It’d boil down to someone noticing an extra 1.5” or so of can hanging out there.

I still think it’s be a great build but put it on hold as the mod0 with 77 is still fun on steel to 750y and was super inexpensive to shoot.

I would not and here is why.

To be clone correct you are looking at the TA30 A2 scope and #22 rings. Both are pretty shitty compared to whats out there now. Even the NXS 2.5-10 has some shortfalls.

You could build a lighter, easier to use gun with a modern FFP optic without the drawbacks of the latest and greatest tech from 1999.

I have a complete clone correct Mod 0. Its great for what it is, but if I cared about shootabily over history, I would have kept the KAC LPR.

I've already done it in 6mm Fat Rat, it was ok. If you're going to do it, do it as a hybrid with better components.

That's the problem I've found with the correct scopes. So this will look fairly close with exception of the optic.

I live in CA, so building a Mk12 meant that it was never going to be truly clone correct, so I decided I might as well build something that was lighter & had more modern components, without compromising on accuracy. I really liked that gun, but I still found myself wanting a Mk12 despite the supposed "technological advancements". This year, I finally got around to building a "Mock 12 Mod 0" exactly the way I wanted - not to get approval from keyboard commandos - but because I always wanted one.

It's definitely NOT clone correct by design - I skipped the SWAN top rail, used a 3-9x40 Leupold VX-R Patrol in a Warne cantilever mount that I already had, and built around a PRI Bergara SPR barrel to save some cash - and I am 100% happy with how it turned out. Sure, it's not clone correct, nor is it the "latest & greatest" but it runs like a champ, and it's close enough to the real deal that I'm absolutely satisfied.

If you want to chamber yours in 6mm ARC, it will be even more potent at long range, so I say go for it. When it comes time to re-barrel mine in a few years, I may go the same route.

So here is my mark 12 ish 6 arc. PRI was out of the 6.8 AEM brakes. I took a 5.56 brake and re-cut the threads to 5/8-24 and increased the exit hole size to accommodate for the 6 mm bullets. I used a SSA-E trigger, Knights trigger guard and bipod adapter.
I went out and got it roughly sighted in with factory 108 eld’s. Functioned flawless with PrI 6.8 mags and ASC 6.5 mags..

Looks fantastic and more potential = 👍👍

Could do a mod 1 and use a NXS 3.5-15. It’s been considered clone correct for that model as there were many out in the wild with it on top.

I'm ressurecting this thread because I plan on doing one of these for myself. Talked to Allen Engineering. There's a couple of ways to go about this. There's the AEM4 which they will b releasing a 6mm model in the near future, which is shorter than the AEM5 I believe, but will still work with the brake and collar system, or the AEM5-30 which is about 2in longer or so. This will be available sometime summerish or so. I plan on using either the 6.8 brake and collar sold by PRI or see if AE will be still making the 30 cal brake/collar. I'll be doing this with either a criterion 1:7.5 18.1" for CLE or douglas 1:7 from CLE.

I would consider the can in a larger bore to give you more options once/if you shoot out the 6mm.

These are great builds gents. 6mm and 6.5mm are far more fun to shoot on steel than 5.56/.224 Wylde, with way more supersonic reach.

I'd go 30cal and take advantage of the increased volume. A fully kitted out Mod 0 is already chunky, so may as well get the most suppression and reduced blowback the larger bored option (might) provide. Did Ron make a suggestion based on his own experience shooting the 6, 6.5, and/or 30 cal on 6-6.5mm AR15 cartridges?
