    Hello All,

Where can I find a 5.56 nato 1:7 twist 16” barrel contoured to accept the ops inc brake & suppressor collar?

    Starting a Mod H build....

    Thanks, folks.

Will call them tomorrow but I didn’t see any 16” spr spec barrels on their website but I’ll look again.

Will also contact Compass Lake and perhaps Centurian Arms (M LeClair).
you can buy a complete Mod H from them if you want. they also sell complete uppers, but if you call they will probably have barrels. its just not something they sell normally.

WOA makes them, but you have to call to order. I think they quoted me $310 with a 4-6 week lead time last I checked.

I will call WOA on Monday. I have a WOA 16” in my 6.8 spc AR and it shoots cloverleafs at 100 and hold a solid 1 MOA to 500, which is as far as I take that rifle.

May also check out ballistic advantage...

compass lake is the best option, but not the cheapest. I am a barrel snob, so Frank and his team do a lot of work for us. Nothing but the best. CLE makes (finishes) a number of the barrels that others are selling for Mk12. Others have mentioned WOA, good people as well. The barrel snob in me does not use BA. If money is an object, get Frank to spin off a Criterion blank. Criterion is getting better and better, as is Bergara in blank production.

Money is an object for a lot of things but not for weapons. I want the best performance period so will spend the $$ for a top tier barrel. I am converting my Mod 1 (Douglas 18” contract spr barrel) save a couple inches and make the weapon a bit easier to handle. Currently, the mod 1 is an honest 3/4 min system to 600 with black hills 77g; figuremhe mod H can do the same (beyond 600 I shoot my sr25). Will be calling Compass Lake, WOA and PRI Monday for sure

I have the PRI upper and primarily shoot it over my Mk12Mod1 HCS upper.

One thing to note, which I found out and initially thought I fucking broke something, is that the amount of times the Ops Inc can twists on the ModH is like 4 more times than on the Mod1.

compass lake and HCS both make great barrels, the BA is a decent barrel for the money its on my wifes ar15, my first mk12 mod 1 type H hybrid used a HCS barrel 16 and it was a hammer

We made my wife's. (RECCE, not ModH) Started with a 25" 1:7 Green Mountain Stainless blank. ( before you poopoo them, they make a shit load of blanks for other sellers to finish).

Profiled to accept my AEM5 at 16". OPS collar and used a Smith Entreprise brake as she shoots with without the can mostly. We also took some of the meat off under the handguard to lighten it up. Use a KAC URX3.1 handguard and it came together nicely.

Lessons learned. The Smith tri-brake for the AEM5 is a touch longer than the AEM brake. I had to cur about. 020" our the "fingers" were contacting the blast chamber and allowed the can to loosen.

Za German mentioned more turns to tighten the can. Ron actually changed the profile slightly over the one hanging one Gene's wall ( the original, for the first five test barrels) I am paraphrasing, but he preferred at least 8 full thread engagements over the 2-4 you get with the orginal print. We have moved the shoulder slightly on all of mine so I have 8-9 turns.

    Looking for a pic now....

Here it is. I'm not a big KAC fan but these URX3.1s are light. I have a 12.5" with a 10" URX3.1 as well and it's nice in the hand with the panels.

Here is a pic with the lower panel pulled back so you can see where the handguard meets the AE collar.

Here is the 12.5". Just because I love it...

Edit: the panels were her idea. She likes them and whatever it takes to get her ass on the range to practice every once in a while is fine with me. When she's mastered the Aimpoint we'll get an LPVO. Half sized IPSC at 300 is easy with the PRO.

so the handguard doesnt get in the way of the can right? looks like a sweet set up

No, fits perfect. It's far enough off the handguard that if you're shooting fast it doesn't get very hot. Basically, just the barrel heat. This is gonna be the tits with a 2.5-10x32 or a 1-8.
