Re: MK12 Mod1's available

These uppers ROCK! I own one and it will shoot LIGHTS OUT at 300 yards. I have taken it out to 600 so far and hit coke cans.

Buy these gentleman you will not regret the purchase. Kevin and Allen know what they are doing.

A little background on the "Pirate killer builder":

Alan retired from NSWC Crane after 25 years. His last position was in the Weapons Prototype Shop. His background is in research & development, test. and evaluation of small arms and ammo. Some of the projects he has worked on are SOPMOD, Mk262 ammo, Mk12, Mk13, Mk18, SPRV, SCAR, PSR, and many more.

Re: MK12 Mod1's available

Price? I may be picking up an upper shortly. Duh...found it. What about barrel length...couldn't find it.

Nevermind...found that too.

Is there a build time for these or are they off-the-shelf items?

They have them currently in stock. These don't last forever, fyi.

I purchased a complete upper to include the KAC BUIS, bipod mount, and sling mount. They isn't necessarily a accuracy guarantee, but they are built to be 1MOA rifles, with reports of .5-.75MOA being the norm. I will post up my range report after I get back into the states. I have a bunch of Black Hills Sierra Matchking ammo, as well as a box of the original military issued MK262 ammo that I will be taking to the range.

They are probably as close to the real thing as you can get, using pretty much all spec parts, down to the Douglas premium barrel. Also, they are built by Alan Brown, who, from my understanding was involved with the original Mk12 project.

"Alan has been involved with firearms “forever”. Professionally he has been involved, to varying degrees, in the development, testing, and building of several weapon platforms for the United States Military. This took place at his previous “day job” at a major government facility in southern Indiana. He also pursues his “outside job” to include the building of quality, highly accurate, tactical and hunting rifles."

Not sure if they do that work, but you could ask. Either way, it's easy to find someone to do it. May I ask why? I assume local laws?

Re: MK12 Mod1's available

Any one know if these were built to shoot a specific round? The reason I ask is because a buddy of many just got one and took it to the range today. He shot a variety of rounds including Black Hills 77 re manufactured, and my home built 18 inch ar seemed to out shoot his MK 12. Now he was able to get it to hold sub moa groups, however I could sense his frustration that he could have shot the same group for $1,100 less.

The Black Hills Sierra Matchking was designed for the Mk12 and he should be able to achieve 1moa and better with that ammo. Can you get this accuracy with less money? Absolutely. Aside from getting a very accurate rifle, you're also paying a premium to have a clone of the mk12. The handguards ($300) and barrel ($425) will run you over $700 alone, not to mention the brake and collar. Sure, there are barrels that are perhaps just as accurate for less money. But, do they have the 'correct' contour and have the same reputation as Douglas? You get what you pay for.

Re: MK12 Mod1's available

I agree that these are some very expensive parts, about $1350 total for all of the exact parts. Now putting together an AR upper is not exactly rocket science. Of course, you have to by the knights wrench if you don't have one and that would add to the cost, but you could sell it for what you pay for it when you are done. Centurion arms is selling these clones for $1340. I think I would go this route or build my own, and save that extra $500 for the sights that are not included, or a down payment on a scope.

Depends on how exact you want to get.

The issued mk12 comes with a Douglas barrel. For about $100 more, you can get the Douglas premium barrel. Is it more accurate? No idea.

No. Its a Douglas barrel. Don't think he uses Larue uppers....
Yes on the Knights rails.

Did not chrono them. Shot them out to 500 yards with great success on a Big Dog Steel Reactive 45% torso target. I do shoot mine with a suppressor, if that makes a difference to you.

Re: MK12 Mod1's available

That's good news, I am just hoping to get out to 600 with ease, I'm still waiting on my can. They received my form in May, so I am hoping too here from dealer any day know.
