Just like a scene from deep in the heart of a family "owned and occupied" trailer park, here's what you get when you start mixin and matchin parts.
Why you ask? Cause he wanted it and we can.
Parts:
Stiller MK13 receiver. RFID tag and all.
Accuracy International stock surface bedded here at LRI. Also had to run our standard jewel clearance program to get that all to fit up.
MARS Rem 700 LA Optic base surface machined to fit the Stiller action. (also doubles as a GiNsU sword stand in when the side mounts are bolted onto it.)
So, we begin with pretty straight forward stuff. Hang a barrel onto the action, fit a brake, etc.
Then we get kinky.
Surf the stock so we never have to worry about the "rocky rocky" issue with AI's ever again.
Reset the magazine purchase height so feeds like buttah
Notch the bolt handle feature so it'll go fully into battery.
Notch the back half of the stock since we have to drop the inlet by .055" when surfing the bedding block. Machining the plastic so that its clean is prolly the hardest part of this whole evolution. Not a forgiving material to work with.
Last, the base holes and clearancing the ports. M700's are .600" center to center on the rear bridge. Stiller MK13 is .860". I could have just poked a hole and been done with it, but after all the other work it seemed like a poor approach. Made a brass plug to press in the hole and machined it to fit the existing features. Then it was just a matter of relocating the hole for the base screw. Once we coat it, it'll all just go away.
Also had to notch a relief for the RF ID tag since that's prolly 1/3rd (or more) of the value of the action.
All in all, pretty cool little project.
