I'm putting an Mk4 3.5-10x40 on a rem sa with an m40 contour barrel. The stock is a McMillian HTG. Can anyone tell me the what the appropriate rings and base would be?
I'm thinking its badger but I dont know which ones. I've looked through the M40 build guide but I didn't see this exact information. I remember seeing an M40 or two, a long long time ago with the Mk4 fixed 10x. I never knew what rings and base they used though.
Anyone have this information?

Has the action been lug slotted? If no, are you planning to have it done?

If not, I’d run a Badger standard SA base (I like 20 MOA) and standard or low rings. I believe all the A1s were clip slotted.

If you want it lug slotted, I’d reach out to CH Precision or GA Precision as they may know and can source the correct parts for a base/rings and offer clip slotting services. TWOMANATTACK, who a member here should also be able to help out.

To the best of my knowledge all the USMC m40s were lug slotted...and I think I have seen a picture of an A1 with a Mk4 10x somewhere in either a book or perhaps online somewhere years ago so know what you are referring to.

Are you going for an M40 clone or just asking for opinions on mounting solutions?

The following set-ups on an R700 s/a receiver will fit a Mark 4 3.5-10x40 over an M40 barrel and have the scope sitting nice and low which you will want to help with the cheek weld with HTG stock.

- Badger 20 MOA base and Badger 'standard' height 30mm rings (0.8.23").

- Leupold Mark 4 rail (20 MOA) and 30mm Mark 4 'medium' height rings (0.84") is also a solid set up.

- Also, consider using the 2-piece Leupold Mark 4 (Zero MOA cant) base set up with either the Badger or Leupold rings to get it sitting even lower.

If you're going for an M40 clone type project you're going to want the Badger Ordnance 30mm USMC M40A3 rings (0.886") without using the 1" inserts.

saw a video online where the guy stacked pennies to get the height needed then measure It helped me
whether its the best method or not I don't know i know there are other methods good luck and hope it works if you try it.
