MKII Trigger Replacement

I have a Savage MKII with an accutrigger that I am in the process of making a trainer out of. I was wondering if there was a decent replacement for this trigger as I am not a big fan. I searched google but came up empty handed. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Cory

Re: MKII Trigger Replacement

I had the same problem until I did a search on rimfire central.
There is an insrtuctional thread about how to polish all contact points and cutting the springs to reduce pull weight.
I did mine and instead of replacing the accutrigger spring with a bic pen spring cut to .0410 I removed the accutrigger completely. It's simple to do and if you have any play in the existing trigger you can shim it with mylar washers or compress the trigger housing slightly at the lips.
I don't have a trigger pull gauge but it made a huge difference in the crispness and my accuracy improved.
It's in the savage section of that forum.

Re: MKII Trigger Replacement

rifle basix is about the best for under $100, you can adjust for poundage, creep, and overtravel. i have one on one of my MKIIs set at 7 oz, no creep, no overtravel. safety still works, no slamfires at my setting, and no firing pin release when butt is dropped on a rubber mat on concrete floor from 12 inches.

here's a bic pen trigger mod i made on a non accutrigger:
LOW BUDGET .22 TRAINER - trigger modification

shimming takes off some of creep, and although doesn't really reduce poundage, it helps to disengage the sear earlier which makes it "seem" like there is less poundage. D.I.P. actually sells some precut shims for the trigger.

not as good as a replacment trigger, but still is quite an improvement over the stock one.

whatever you do either replacement trigger, bic pen spring, or shims, make sure it is safe poundage, sear engagement isn't borderline going off, and there are no slam fires (empty chamber, unloaded. use an empty case or snap cap).
