Yesterday was the opener of our last split.
We've had some cold weather move in and it froze up most of the swamps and ponds. Good ice and snow North of us helped to push the birds down and with the season being close for week, I guess they thought they'd found paradise.
We set up as far up a feeder creek as we could get before hitting the ice. Hunting the edge of the ice has been productive for me in the past, so I knew the theory was good.
Decoys - 3 GHG Mallards, 4 Gadwalls, 2 Wigeon, 1 Mojo Teal
They poured in before legal shooting time and we kept brushing them off until it got light enough to shoot.
The teal attacked that Mojo.
I got a two-in-one and my buddy got a three=in-one.
We had our two man limit pretty quickly and they were still pouring in when we left.
As I was retrieving the boat from cover, he had mallards landing all around him.
Hopefully, no one else hit that spot and it will be good next time too.

That is some good wing shooting there. Got to love teal, them fast flying SOB's. Fun though.

i just got into ducks this year, it's lots of fun, i shot 6 teal. i soaked mine for a little while in salt water, then stuck the breast in Italian salad dressing for a day. slit the breast, stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped them in bacon, stuck them on the grill, man, i'm hooked, going for deer and duck this weekend

Nice birds. It makes me jealous that you get to shoot full colored bird and all I have here is ice and snow.
