Hello! I am brand new to the forum and I look forward to learning from the many wise people on here.

I am wanting to build myself a nice rifle. I can certainly buy one but I would like to learn and do the assembly myself. I am fairly familiar with the Remington 700 having shot a stock 7mm most of my life. This seems like a good model for me to base my new gun on.

The new gun will be a 6.5 CM. I am thinking Solus Barreled Action to start with? Would this be a good choice? Several forums seem to be high on this setup.

As far as stock I want to stay close to the classic look. I would love any advise on some good models.

Again thank you for any advise. I look forward to learning from everyone.

Yes, factory Solus barreled actions in 6.5CM have been shown to be good shooters. Both of my Aero barrels in 6.5CM shoot very well with handloads.

As far as classic looking stocks, you could always look into Foundation. They do woodgrain stocks. They're not cheap, but they're very nice and high-quality, and they do offer an Aero Solus inletting.

How much building do you want to do? Buying a barreled action takes care of like 80% of the building other than dropping a trigger in then dropping the barreled action into a stock and tightening 2 screws.

If you want to do a full build on your own I would go with a zermatt origin action (this has a rem 700 footprint and aero’s customer support with solus has been extremely lacking lately) and a solid button rifled shouldered prefit barrel like a criterion from northland shooters supply. You’d also need an origin action wrench, 6.5 creed go/no-go headspace gauges, and a torque wrench. You can get the action, barrel, action wrench, and headspace gauges all from NSS.

Or if you want a premium cut rifled barrel some options are to get a Kreiger, Bartlein, etc purchased and chambered from bugholes or a an Osprey barrel chambered by Patriot Valley Arms.

For “classic look” stocks are you only interested in wood or is plastic/resin ok? If ok then id give a look at KRG bravo or MDT field stocks for “budget” options <$400

Sticking in the Rem 700 Platform is the best. It's like Legos.

Aero Solus or Zermatt Origin Action ( Buy the 223 bolt head while your buying )

Pre Fit 6.5 Creed barrel of your choosing. Proof, Altus Shooting, Patriot Valley Arms, Preferred barrel Blanks, Carbon Six and numerous other smiths and companies that can spin a barrel of your choosing. $600-$1500

Look at the Manners Long Range Hunter stock if that's what this rifle is going to be. Be sure and get the mini chassis or the Micro chassis. Then get a MDT M5 Bottom metal. $1200-$1400

Triggers. Hard to beat the tried and true Timney 510. I prefer the Bix'n Andy triggers. Lots of adjustability. Then TriggerTech is there as well. $130- $300

Invest in a set of Fix it sticks with the torque drivers. $200-$500 depending on what kit you want.

Short Action Precision Barrel vise to swap barrel as you want to shoot a different caliber. There are others as well. $250-$800
