Without much information to go off of on these lights, I decided to purchase one and see for myself. I’ve heard some good things but not much is published on it per se. I didn’t want to spend $2500 for a MAWL and the D2 is a pig and still $1300 or so. I wanted something better than what a SF IR light provides, so this is the route I’m going.
It has 1100mW of IR output and Modlite rates it to a distance of 300 yards which seems accurate in my first night of use.
The unit feels rock solid durable but not heavy. You barely realize it’s even on the rifle. The profile is minimal as well which I like because I prefer my stuff to be as streamlined as possible.
It does emit a red glow, so if that’s a tactical issue for you, this may not be your light. At night with the naked eye, I can aim the light at the ground and see the red glow on the ground. It’s faint but I can see it. Not sure how far it would be visible from if you were looking at it.
The beam has some flood and a hot spot. I think it’s a good balance between throw and flood. I was able to light up 8 deer spread out a few feet apart from each other in a field about 230 yards away.
I wouldn’t recommend using this light in tight indoor areas. The basement was fine at about 50ft long, but that’s as close as I would feel comfortable using it without risking tube damage. So if you plan on clearing wharehouses, good to go...traditional family house...no go.
I will get some pictures to post later tonight after some more field use. As of right now, I think this a bitchin illuminator especially for the price. It seems expensive for a light, but it’s a lot better than overpriced civilian laser/illuminators. My buddy has a FP unit we want to compare it to as well.
Stay tuned.
