a while back i got a pretty good deal on an 02 honda civic si with about 57k on it and in completly stock trim. So far its been a great little car and its super fun to drive but i would like to go faster, 160hp at the crank isnt really cutting it for me. I dont really wanna go nuts with it (no racing or anything) but it would be nice to be able to keep up with some of the faster traffic around here. So what do you say? what go fast parts would you go for. Looking to maybe make about 250 hp at the wheels, Possible? No nitrous, thats cheating.

+1, get yourself a 04-07 STi. Swap trunk lids with a regular WRX or even a RS. Debadge the car and get yourself a Cobb access port.

I DO NOT make car payments nor will I . This was the sportiest car I could afford without going into debt. If I wanted to take loans out it would be on an RS4. So until I get a better job the honda will do.....I just want to make it do better

Re: Mods for my Si?

There is no quick fix it to get 250HP... You can start with a turbo setup. That will get you on the right track...

Your Civic will handle 6-7psi no problem, but after that, start looking into internal work to prevent wear and tear.

The typical header, intake, muffler crap is just more money than it's worth on the majority of inline 4's without enough results to justify it. I did the whole import thing for a while years ago. Moved on when the "fast and furious" phase started bringing about idiots with loud ass cans and stock civics flying at 6000rpms all over town thinking they are the reincarnation of Paul Walker's character.

I'd get some decent looking rims if you don't like the current, lower it a bit with some decent but cheap coilovers, and leave the rest.

Re: Mods for my Si?

Sooo stick with what I got and save my nickles for an Audi? Maybe just save up for another 636, hopefully ill have it more than 2 months before I t-bone another stupid lazy jobless whitetail deer lol

Re: Mods for my Si?

Do what you want. All I'm saying is if either you are just really into the car, or have a ton of knowledge and know-how about building them, you are going to invest a lot of time and money into it making it what you explained you wanted.

Just like anything, do what makes you happy I guess.

I'd dump money into the suspension and wheels, a car that handles like its on rails is a whole hell of alot more fun.

Re: Mods for my Si?

funny thing is that it already handles like its on rails. Thats what makes it such a fun car to drive. Every other car ive driven seems to want to get loose if you take an off ramp way too fast but this car just shoots right down the road no tire squeal no drama. The handeling is great, the 0-100 not so much, but i guess ill just drive it till i find somthing better. Thanks guys.

This is what you want...190(ish) whp and 455 lbs.

Oddly I had this disagreement with my brother; he prefers Asian Imports to have wheels and European Imports to have legs, I however firmly believe that Asian Imports should have legs and Euro Imports should have wheels. Just my $.02 =)

Except when you have an 08+ like me (2010 STi SE) and people are like "look at that silly hatchback"...

Before someone comes on and says the 08+ look like shit, you know what I don't give a fuck. After owning the hatch I wouldn't go back to the sedan after they brought it back in the 2011 model. Hatch is just as fast, was made to be a hatch because that is what the Rally teams wanted, and is more useful in day to day life. I absolutely love it, very fun car.

Re: Mods for my Si?

I do like the 2 wheel inports...had an 03 kawasaki 636 ninja and that had around 120 hp (could be very off) I think. Had it for 2 months until one night I was crossing the vast empty nothingness that is central illinois at about 80 and a stupid deer popped out, ended up tboning it laying the bike over and sliding out. Walked away with only minor scratches (thank god for that one) but the bike basically disinigrated, bent the forks and everything. The deputy let me shoot the deer in his stupid deer face and then I got some "o you almost died" sex so all in all pretty cool experience but now I'm kinda leary of another fast bike.

And I totally agree about the new sti I think the hatch is the best looking version ever

my current bike out powers the BMW by roughly 50whp....but i totally love the BMW...it will be my next bike...that thing is a straight up BEAST for a stock bike!

Re: Mods for my Si?

Dude, sell that lawn mower and get a Subaru WRX. With very little modification it'll be up to 250 HP+ at the wheels and it has AWD and takes corners like it's on rails - all that and it costs a lot less than the STI. Get the 2002-2003 model because the ladies love the bug eyes.

Re: Mods for my Si?

I'm not too up on the 2000's model civics, but I know you can make a junkyard turbo kit on older civics for around $1k that would get you to around 200whp. A nice coilover set will be around another $1k. That'll make you faster on the straights and in the corners for $2-2.5K. There are some pretty good tuning options available online for free too.

Re: Mods for my Si?

Don't waste your time buying small mods like off the shelf intakes/header/exhaust. If you're really serious about 250WHP, you're looking at forced induction. You are very lucky that you actually chose the 2002 Si because they had shifted to the k20 over the older b16. At the very least, a turbo kit will cost you $3000 parts alone brand new. Install will be up to whether or not you got a bolt-on kit or one that requires modification. Then you must worry about who will tune your engine management. Some bolt-on kits have pre-programmed maps on their engine management, but I would never do that for a car that was not designed to run turbo from the factory. Then, buy better brakes for the car so you don't kill yourself trying to stop with the added 90WHP. If that all sounds too expensive, don't even think of going normally aspirated because that's way more expensive than a bolt-on turbo kit. Good luck.

Not everyone cares about a straight line, there are many types of amateur racing like HPDE, Autocross, Rallycross, etc. that are easy to get into and let you do things that you cannot do on the street. I like messing with cars of all types and not so I can go faster on the road, street racing of any kind is just dumb. I agree with saving money for a retirement fund though. On the other hand, I don't see what is different about spending money on your car and spending money on guns. They are both enjoyable hobbies for many people.

Dad? lol you sound like my family
After reading the replies on this thread I've dedided that modding the si is not worth it. Probably just keep it as is until I get a better job next year and then trade it on a mazdaspeed 3 or an audi s4 avant. I like the wagon/hatch shape

Nothing personal against you man...it's just awfully similar to one of those questions like - "I want to build a 50BMG off my Springfield 1903 action". Can it be done? maybe...but you're better off spending your time and money elsewhere.

Re: Mods for my Si?

I'd recommend the s4 over the speed3 because you may be tempted to mod the speed3 the same way you would the Si. If you go sports/luxury, you won't be tempted to put mods that would compromise the warranty because you'd be afraid of paying out of pocket for mechanical issues. I'm sad that you don't have a STI on your list... haha. Good luck again.

Re: Mods for my Si?

LS1 F-body with minimal mods will tear apart most of these "fast" 13 and 12 second imports. They're dirt cheap and you're starting out with 350HP in a 3250lb car which puts you at a serious advantage.

If you interested in quarter mile runs then sure, I agree with you. Like to see that f-body keep up with a STi on a rally or road course though.

Edit: given equal drivers obviously

At a significant price increase. It's all a balancing act, but I think the biggest bang for the buck is still in the LS1 f-bodys. But you're right, a RWD car would be no good on a "rally course". One gold star for you
