Okay i thought i'd start a new thread and this time ad all the facts, okay i will be setting up a SENDERO in .300 WM, the scope i have is the BURRIS BLACK DIAMOND 8-32 X 50, it is a MIL-DOT which the yardage marks from 100-700 yards, also the technical booklet says it has 39" of adjustment @ 100yards....Is that enough to adjust out to 1000 yards ?

I'm not sure i know what i'm talking about so sorry if i'm being confusing..........

Re: More advice needed on 0 or 20 MOA bases

given the very vague question...here are some vague answers.

i suceeded in blowing not only my mind but also Lindy's I can truly sleep better at night knowing this now

but to answer your question here is my answer about 20 MOA bases, to me its like my idea on handguns and condoms:

Its better to have and not need it, then to need it and not have it

Now did i blow your mind with everything that i wrote?

Re: More advice needed on 0 or 20 MOA bases

Well, you blew mine.

The roughly 4 inches it takes to zero the scope at 100 yards comes off the 20 inches of up elevation he will have off a flat base.

That leaves roughly 16 inches of "up" at 100 yards, or 160 inches of "up" at 1000 yards - which is not enough to get him to 1000 yards shooting a .300 WM.

So, he needs a 20 MOA base.

Re: More advice needed on 0 or 20 MOA bases

i was going by the theoretical idea that he would bottom the elevation out and only use 4 Inches of the 39 still leaving a full 35 inches of elevation....but looking back on it i blew mine as well Lindy, but sometimes after i say something i think to myself, what in the hell was i saying

okay now I'm starting to understand ! So if I "Bottom out" The elevation while zeroing 100 will the remainder of the adjustment be enought to get to 1000 ?

Re: More advice needed on 0 or 20 MOA bases

Assuming that when your reticle is in the center of the tube, i.e., so the line of sight is parallel to the bore, you have the same amount of adjustment up as you do down, you can't "bottom out" the reticle when zeroing the scope.

The amount you need to zero is a function of your height above bore, and the drop of your cartridge from the muzzle to your short range zero.

Neither is under your control.

If you want to shoot that rifle to 1000 yards, you will either need to acquire a slanted base - might as well get a 20 MOA - or you will need a different scope.

Cheers so far Guys for the help...... </div></div>

Depends on what load you are shooting. Probably not significantly higher than your 300 yard zero with the 300WM.

Your base line zero won't have any affect on how much adjustment you have left to get to 1000 though.
