I have a Nylon 66, 597 and a 10/22. I am looking for another or new plinker, cheap one that is in a tacticool for the grand babies to enjoy. I was thinking of the SW MP22 but this is half the price just for plinking cans and such with the boys and 5 grand babies. It feels cheap and I am not sure how much abuse it will take over the years and how many 22 rounds down range. Probably will shoot once a month to more likely every two months up to a brick at a time.

Thanks

Okay...first off you'll read about feeding issues.
FTF, stovepipes, jams. About 90% of these end up being magazine related and easily rectified by swapping out the magazine. For this reason I recommend dealing with a bricks and mortar store instead of online. If you buy online they won't likely replace the mag...they'll tell you to go directly to Mossberg which will eat up a month.
So...I purchased a 715T (the carry handle version) in the late spring and got a bad magazine with mine.
On my first outing every 2nd shot was a jam, FTF or misfire.
Crap!!
But then I read the reviews, went to my dealer and exchanged the mag (and picked up a second one).
Since then I've put around 2000 rounds through it with 3 or 4 FTF...no jams, no stovepipes...in my mind very reliable.
Accuracy...easy to get 2" groups at 50m offhand with the A2 peep sight with bulk Blazer ammo. Gun Tests did a review of the Mossberg, the S&W, The ISSC and the Umarex Colt M4...all of which are nearly twice the price of the Mossberg.
Gun Review gave the Mossberg an A-. The ISSC (at $600) had just as much plastic...and it's not a 'real' AR (it's blowback semi-auto) so it isn't great as a rimfire trainer for you 5.56 AR, as are the Colt and S&W.
But as they said...if you want the most accurate gun, that is (barring the mag issue) dead nuts reliable...it's a huge winner considering the price.
From me...two thumbs up!!

Re: Mossberg 715T any thoughts?

i don't have one, but a guy from work showed up at the range a couple weeks a go with one. 7 shots and for some reason the bolt was broke. couldn't fire, didn't lock into either the closed or open position. just slid back and forth.

don't know if that was a fluke or not. couldn't say anything about the accuraccy as it broke

i've looked at them, for the price they same to be the same size and feel as the AR, and seemingly a bargain. that is if they work.

they seem a bit off the quality mark of the other AR22's, but then again they are priced half as much.
