Probably should be on a hunting forum but I'll ask ya'll here. I can't go $3,000+ on another custom rifle so I'm looking at factory jobs. Caliber will be 7mm-08, .260, .243, etc. I'm looking at Savage, Remington, Browning X-Bolt, Thompson Encore Pro Hunter, ICON, Sako 85 (if I can find one) Model 70 made bt FNH. My main conceren is accuracy. Any suggestions? The TC Encore intrigues me, I just can't see a break open rifle being accurate but people say they are. By accurate, I mean, .75 or less with handloads @ 100 yards.
Thanks

I would go stainless remington in sendero model. Then you can upgrade later. You could go .260 rem then it can cross over to tact.

Re: Most accurate factory rifle

If your main concern is accuracy, I'd go Savage. Many models and calibers to choose from under $1,000. You can order bbls chambered and ready to screw on yourself with a cheap vice and Savage bbl nut wrench.

Re: Most accurate factory rifle

i like the new Savage with the accustocks. I failed to mention, I want to keep the weight around 7lbs. I'm hunting with my 7mmWSM (F-Class) but it weights about 15lbs with the NF 8-32X56. need one easier to carry and handle inside a deer blind.

Anyone here shoot the Thompson Center guns, I know the ICON Warlord, is nice but what about the hunting guns?

Re: Most accurate factory rifle

You did'nt mention them, but I had a Steyr Pro Hunter in 308 that was an absolute tack driver. The ugliest thing I ever owned, but man would it shoot. With 168gr Win. ballistic siver tips, it would shoot one ragged hole. It actually shot better than my SSG PIIV. CDNN has them in their flyer, short and long barrels.

How about the new LONG RANGE HUNTER from Savage?? Hearing some pretty good things about this gun.Comes with all the goodies Savage has to offer,accutrigger,accustock,etc..Also comes in 6.5-284 which has interested me for years as well as a few others..I think it may be retailing around 700.00

Just my two cents..

That is a very good point. It seems they have managed to do a complete 180. You used to not hear any good things about Savages, now there is very little bad said about them.

That being said there still seems to be a certain stigma about Savages that keeps some people away.

Re: Most accurate factory rifle

If your handloading you already have a better leg to stand on and most factory rifles will shoot better with custom ammo regardless.

Id say Remington 700 or Savage. Remingtons have lots of aftermarket goodies incase you change ur mind down the track
