I'm against racism and rewriting history. FWIW, I had several relatives fighting on both sides from the start in AR in early 1861 to the end in 1865, from a Confederate private soldier to a Union general, infantry to drummer boy. I don't have a dog in the fight other than I respect history and so much of my families history happened there. Removal of the statues is akin to what Al Qaeda does, it's trying to rewrite history by erasing, well, history. In a world with "fake news" (in quotes because what "they" call fake news and what constitutes fake news are two different things --we can't even agree on that) I guess this action is to be expected.

On the other hand, I happen to know for a fact that many of these statues were erected forty years after the fact and there was a stature company that made them in bulk for $400 ea. (extra for special faces). They sold hundreds, every town has one. I guess if "we" selectively removed some of those and left the nice, commissioned work along with special ones it wouldn't be so bad. We really don't need 244 knockoffs of the same fucking statue in every town --that's slick ass old school propaganda, not history.

Lincoln's plan was for mass forgiveness after the war to reunite the country, and to a great degree, it was followed.
So, calling them traitors NOW after the federal government pardoned them all after the war THEN is well, horseshit.
Fed gov pardoned them, welcomed then back, and they were productive citizens for the country.
And after reconstruction, fed gov worked with them to "grow" the United States to the world power it became.
All those "traitors" are very much part of the fabric of what this country is today in its greatness as a world power.
