Mount for SN3 TPal on AR...

I was planning on using my LT-104 mount for mounting my new USO SN3 1.8-10 on my Larue Stealth upper. I've been told it will fit, but the poster pointed out a good point- that the design of the mount means that the screw portion of the rings will obscure the EREK knob reading.

I've been looking at other options, such as the Badger 20moa riser base with a set of rings (lows?) but I would really prefer something quick release, otherwise there isn't much point in putting back up sights on it.

Ideas?

Thanks,

-BOb

GG&G 1 pc QD mount. They offer 2 different models... one for AR's with a 1.5" or one for bolt rifles (which I use with my USO 1.8-10x37 and LWRC) at 1.06" ( I prefer a tight check weld)...

Best of luck

When do you forsee using the BUIS? </div></div>Good question. Somewhere around the 5th of never. However, when I asked the question, EVERYONE thought it very important to pay the extra for the Troys $200 vs the Magpuls ($80.) So if I'm gonna pay the extra for absolute-worst-case-in-shit-hits-the-fan, I should be able to access them quickly if I need them.

I went with the badger 22MOA base and USO 30mm Low rings.

It gives me the ideal mounted height of 1.42" and the scope is far enough forward to still shoot NTCH.

Falar,

That does seem like the best option for a permanent mount. I guess I'm going to have to figure out how important it is to have a quick release. Probably the most prudent thing to do is to try the USO in the Larue, see if the extra ring thickness at the top is really going to cause me an issue or not.

The only other issue is the lack of cant. This larue is 0 moa. Any idea how much elevation will be left?

Thanks,

How about using either the Larue qd rings with a badger riser, like this:

or using standard Badger or USO rings with a Larue riser base like this:

It seems like the rings would be a good option, except that they are too tall when combined with a 20 moa riser, and probably mount the scope too far rearward without a base. The base seems like a good option, and it seems like it would be more secure, but it has the downside of not having the 20moa cant that I would prefer like the Badger has.

That being said- does anyone know how much elevation the scope has when using a flat base? From Lowlights review on this exact scope, it had 13 mils left of upward travel when mounted level, which would be plenty and then some.

Re: Mount for SN3 TPal on AR...

Nice mount. Not sure if it mounts correctly, the OBR has a monolithic top rail, the nice thing about the SPR mounts is the offset. No cant either- the OBR has 20 moa built in.

Re: Mount for SN3 TPal on AR...

Anyone else have an opinion? I like the looks of that Larue riser rail, anyone have any experience with it?

Re: Mount for SN3 TPal on AR...

I'd go Badger and use the LaRue rings if you just gotta go tool-less QD.
That said I'm of the opinion that QD's are great for rifles that may actually find themselves in a CQB role, but if you're gonna put the kind of glass you are talking about an a rifle, then it being mounted solidly and in the best position for you to utilize it in its role trump all else. Get the rings tha are the best height to get the scope where you need it to be.
Stick a cutoff 1/2" box wrench in your pistol grip if you want QD-if you run your ring's calmp screws finger tight then 1/4 turn more you'd be amazed at how repeatable they are.....

Sobr-

Good call on that. Chances are that I would never even use the BUS, I was just trying to stay "true to the build."

Here is what I am going to do- I'm going to try the Lt-104 mount when the scope comes in. If it compromises the se of the erek knob, I will go with the badger riser and a quality set of low rings. I'll wait to purchase the buis until I figure this out. I won't waste the money on Troys if I don't have a QD system.

Nice lookin rifle.

Re: Mount for SN3 TPal on AR...

The new scope came in today, and it does NOT fit in the Larue SPR (Lt-104) mount. So looks like I am going with one of the two other options.

I guess it's kinda stupid because what works, works- but I look at it like putting a ford motor into a chevy. I went with a Larue Stealth complete upper, and am going with a Larue lower. Using one of the few main competitors mounts on Larue's rifle seems like the wrong thing to do, but at the end of the day, what works, works.
