Ok I coyote hunt with my neighbor and he recently picked up a ND3 subzero laser genetics light. It will shine a green beam out to 250 yards and light up whatever you are hunting or shooting etc. etc... but the mount they give you for it is crap. I am guessing others may have this and maybe you have come up with something better than what they send you or maybe a larue mount or some kinda flashlight mount for a picatinny rail might work. I dont have any pics but it is a 30mm tube on the light. the trick is getting it lined up with the scope when the beam is widened as well. any help would be great...

Re: Mounting a Laser Genetics ND3 subzero?

Brother, I think you're going to sorely dissappointed when coyote hunting with that light. If you hav the beam turned up enough to make a coyotes eyes reflect, he won't look at it again. Foxes, hogs, deer or coons; no worries. But it's a bad wavelength for coyotes and they shy away inside 200m.

I have the first model and yes the scope mount is shite. Cool Idea, but shitty chinese construction to keep the price down. It works on almost every critter, but coyotes generally shy away from this thing.

Good Luck with it, but you better bring a red lensed regular light along with you....so all your night stands won't be a bust.

thanks do you recommend a good red light? I remember hearing about some watching fox pro's show but dont remember the names?
thanks so much for your help Southbreeze

Re: Mounting a Laser Genetics ND3 subzero?

light force is another great brand, several sizes/prices to get. I think cabelas started carrying one of the models but you can google lightforce and look there. I have one and enjoy it. I have tryed some of the smaller models but my streamlights are brighter than they are.

donovan and gadbmw you guys rock. thanks so much. it seems if your not starting the thread of all threads people dont want to bother. so thanks for taking the time to help me out. My neighbor whom I hunt with will appreciate it. and please PM me if I can be of any help to you. thanks again.

Re: Mounting a Laser Genetics ND3 subzero?

Manzgear, I've been using a Streamlight Ultrastinger to scan at night for several years now. Got a Blizzard scope cap painted with a red Sharpie inside the lens...

In the last few years, there has been a literal shit ton of LED based torches on the market that would work well for night predators. Some of them are very inexpensive. Do a search on e-gay for Cree flashlights/ headlmaps and it'll make your head spin! The headlamps would work well for scanning, then you'd need torch with a decent throw for shooting...

As for mounts, I drilled/tapped a YHM 3" rail onto my ARs handguard for mounting up a mini torch. Right now, the one I'm using on the gun is an Olight M20 X. It is brighter than my Surefire M961 by a noticable margin...

+1 on lightforce gear. I've two of the 170's and they are, IMHO, the duck's nuts. If i'm going out for night work in the field and not using NV gear, a lighforce is on the gun.

I wasn't going to hawk any gear, but since you asked....a pic of my 170 fitted on my trusty rusty killing machine of a mauser 22-250.

You can look at Allpredatorcalls or tufflights.com, they stock everything you need.

If you go this route, may I suggest purchasing a 35W bulb as well. Discovered this by accident when I picked up the IR filter to use in conjunction with NightVision sights, and they recommended a 35w bulb to dim the light enough to not overpower the IR lense. I forgot to swap the bulb out when I pulled off that filter and found the battery was lasting 2-3 times as long as with the included 75w bulb.

The other thing with these lights is that the housing is adjustable, kinda like a mag light, twist the refleltor to open your beam of light to a flood or tighten it to make a pencil'd beam spot that's good for about a half mile.

Just my two cents worth. I own/use everything I've written about.

Good luck with it and have fun,
Breeze

Re: Mounting a Laser Genetics ND3 subzero?

I was pretty disappointed with the nd3's. If you mount it on a rail it won't line up with your scope and the mount that came with it doesn't fit a 30mm scope. (I know you can buy one but not going to bother with it.) Like southbreeze said, it doesn't work that well for scanning for eyes. But it will shine as far as you can see if you turn it up.

Re: Mounting a Laser Genetics ND3 subzero?

SouthBreeze you are oh so right about yotes not liking the green lazer light. foxes dont mind but coyotes dont stay in the beam long enough to shoot them....man what to do?
