Rifle Scopes Mounting a scope base

let me start off with I'm not sure were this post go's move me if needed thanks

This is my first Rifle I am Putting the base on myself I just got my Murphy precision scope base today... what a piece of art. Anyway I use one screw to hold the base to my gun and look for gaps. I see just a hair of a gap just behind the action that fades to nothing the closer it gets to the screws in the back. Should I still bed this base?

That describes the way my Savage action is, and I bedded it. If the gap closes with more screws installed, I would bed it.

Yours may not be this extreme, but you can see the taper
