Hide,

Has anyone used this Norwegian-made mover system?

Saw it here:

and then went to website here:
http://blinktroll.com/

If anyone has used the Blinktroll and/or know anything about it, any feedback? I have farm where this thing would be very fun to use.

As always, I appreciate the solid feedback you guys always have. Thanks in advance.

It looks like a nice system. I don't see on the website any pricing or ordering info. Perhaps they need a need one of our hide vendors to contact them and set up American distribution. Hint to hide vendors: open with group buy!

That does look like a neat system.

We are using a system made locally here in Florida from SITargets dot com. It is not cheap, but is robust and works well for Florida, where our ground is flat-ish and we typically do not any reasonable way to set up an overhead system like the OP posted. Here's a link to the SITargets Tactical Tracker.

Thanks guys.

RE price. No clue. Checking w/ the contact listed on their website.

RE battery life. Again, no clue.

RE other systems. I don't like the ground based rail systems for a variety of reasons, but I am they sure work well. I have more than a few good trees spaced perfectly a part in which I could rig a wire rope (tightened with a turnbuckle) for the Blinktroll.

If I do get any more info on this unit, I will post it here...

Depending on where you are located Chris Reel makes a nice moving target system that's used at Long Gun Training in New York. His emaii is [email protected]. He lives in the Rochester New York area. Email him and tell what your are look for. I'm pretty sure he can design it for your needs.

Few prototype units outthere were sold past 3K Eur -3.5k$ (but note 20% is just Vat Tax in much of Europe),but having built a similar type rope runing target with a friend i can say its not cheap to build ither components for our sytem alone cost cca 1000+$ and bunch of hours of thinkering , our system improves on Blinktroll in many fields. But so far blinktroll is only one made commercialy.

Guys, thanks for the replies.

I heard back from Kenneth at BlinkTroll. Details include:
  • The unit costs apx $4800 and that is everything but the wire/rope.
  • They do ship to US and they are talking with US distributors for future.
  • Their target market is LE and MIL, which is reflected in the price.
  • The battery lasts apx 2-3 hours with a 15 lb target, but double that if two batteries are used.
  • Sounds like they plan on continuing to innovate, especially on the software front.
At this price point, I'm not interested.

I do have some engineering experience and will likely put together a wire rope mover but with a stationary motor/battery. Will not have as fancy a wifi interface but will have some other advantages. Durability for example, if that BlinkTroll takes a bullet impact or ricochet or frag, what happens? Also, a stationary motor can be more powerful with a bigger battery. I might be able to get a popper system together as well. It is nice to have a big farm with hundreds of acres to deploy all this mechanical stuff on, in a semi-permanent location. For guys without this access, the BlinkTroll is a good solution.

Fun stuff for sure (y)

Hi Guys,
Just saw this post, recently signed up again for The Hide, I have not been active here for years.
First of all, if anyone have any questions, shoot me an email at [email protected]. I dont have the time to follow up on all of the comms out there unfortunately.
When it comes to how long, how fast and how much there is more than one answer. The standard version can pull about 10Kg of steel (approx 20lbs) at 4,4m/sek, almost 10 Mph. One battery will then last approx 2,5-3 hours. Double up, almost twice as long.
We have versions that can run for 8-10 hours on one battery and its only a batterychange away from 8-10 more.
Advantages on using its own communication is that you can controll it fully, and make your own programs, ie stop it behind barricades etc.
The lightweight system means you can use trees, wood tripods and ground anchors, containers or walls as fixed points.

If there is a chance of the carrier being shot? yes. It has happened once, at 30m, an operator had a brain-malfunction and put one round through the drivewheel , a full 2meters above the target. Rounds was on him in the bar later. At any rate I changed the drive wheel and ran it 20m later, with a nice hole in the frame. The risk is there, but seems little compared to the advantages. If requested we deliver an Armox armor plate to attach to the front on softpoints, shielding for any handgun at close range. For sniper fire at a distance we have to be caliber and distance specific if we are top protect it. A verification target at same distance as the BlinkTroll mover will most likely take care of the biggest risks.
We are working on many ways to expand on the system.
Thanks for your time,
Kenneth
