MPA BA Competition Vs KRG Whiskey 3?

I currently own an MPA BA Comp, and I love the grip/thumb shelf. Im not a huge fan of the cheek piece and LOP adjustment requiring the set screws. Its a bit heavy at 5.2lbs. Im considering swapping it for a KRG Whiskey 3. I also like the grip on the KRG about the same as the MPA, but the cheek adjustment is more solid and quicker. I used to own an X-Ray, so im curious on the thoughts for the newest gen 6 Whiskey 3 for LOP adjustment. The Whiskey 3 is almost 1.5lbs lighter.

Has anyone shot both and have thoughts on the 2 compared?

You could always give the MDT LSS-XL Gen2 or ESS a look too if you're looking for an alternative

Between the two (MPA and KRG) they're both awesome chassis! I personally like the looks of the KRG more, but the functionality of the MPA's (especially the COMP and Hybrid) is hard to beat.

Same reason people use a carbon barrel, same reason yall make the hybrid chassis. Handier rifle. Weight definitely has diminishing returns for some uses.

It all depends on what your end goal with the rifle is right? If you're planning to compete then Walker is right, a heavier rifle will mitigate recoil better, allow you to spot trace/impacts and speed up your follow up, however you have to carry more weight. If this is built more as a weekend fun/plinking/hunting rifle, then yes, by all means throw on a carbon barrel, remove the weight and make it easier to carry, you're not going to shoot 100+ rounds a day out of it.

It really is a preference thing. I prefer the grip of the large panels on the W3 vs any other grip I was able to add to the MPA. The MPA is very nicely machined and I really liked it, but my preference was always to go back to a W3 regardless of what chassis I tried.

I've got the Whiskey 3 Gen5 and I've been using it for about a year. I really like the small grip and the thumb ramp. The buttstock has a ton of adjustments. It's lighter weight, which I now realize may not be an advantage. I have the folding version which locks up really tight but still allows it to fit into smaller bags.

My biggest complaint with the W3 is how many things are options. It's great that options are there for you to really make it your own setup but it can get expensive. So, if I want the spigot and full length Arca rail the MPA has, that's another $200. If i want QD sling swivels on both sides up front, that's another option. Also, the folding hinge location makes weak side (left-side) grip a little more cumbersome. And because of the hinge, sling carry muzzle down across your chest can be uncomfortable so I just avoid it. The gunsmith also had to do some work on the Impact action trigger hanger to get it to fit in the W3. It wasn't difficult, but it's another step and so depending on your action, it may not be drop in.

I've been looking at the MPA as I need another stock/chassis. Looking at the pictures, the MPA Comp chassis appears to have thumbwheels for LOP and cheekrest adjustment, but you mention a set screw. Is that an option to lock it down once you've got it set? I should probably add the MDT to that list for consideration as well.

The MPA has the thumb wheels and then you use the set screws to lock things into place. It isn't a bad system but they are tiny little screws and I found that they did work loose on occasion - it must just happen from vibrations or recoil or what have you.

I think if you look at the side profile of the MDT LSS Gen II it looks a lot like the MPA. Long and flat fore end with an angled section in front of the magwell. Slap an RRS rail on there and I think it would be hard to notice any practical differences. MDT also has something in the works, it has weight adjusting stuff, a very vertical grip and some other junk I can't quite figure out what.

KRG stuff is also top notch gear. Had an original W3 and now have a Bravo. MPA is quality gear but KRG is quality in an intangible sense as well.

Ok you've got my attention, I'll keep my eyes peeled on the social media if i have to. the more i look at the ESS chassis i really like the idea of the right side folding stock and the look of the carbon forend. Any hints if these will be options on what's coming up?

Good to hear I can't go too far into the details, but a folding stock (right and left) will be an option, but not the carbon fiber forend.

I LOVE that my MPA chassis has an Arca rail machined in to it and better yet, an Arca spigot to get my bipod far forward, and even better yet, a Magnetospeed adaptor for the spigot.

The Magnetospeed adaptor pushed it right to the top for me when looking for a new chassis. I’m my opinion, anyone that comes out with a new chassis that doesn’t have a similar option for a Magnetospeed is behind the pack. It’s really a game changer for me.

We agree with you @Yerman, and have decided to integrate a lot of the features our competitors have into our chassis, as well as optimizing design and adding some things that no one has come up with yet. I hope you like it when it gets announced!

@SLG that is true, some chassis work better as "all arounds" where others are more specialized. Our new chassis will be a bit more specialized than the W3, but very customizable for your needs

How is the MPA viewed as a comp only? Truth is when I hunt, say a fence line, I use a tree/fence/stump as a rest. Yes it has a lot of options but truth is, many things used for competition are practical. Because it’s Alum?

I would much rather have an alum chassis, KRG/MPA/MDT with options than a wood stock of old.
