I just got off the phone with Barrett CS, they said the caliber conversions for the MRAD will release Q1 of 2013. A BORS system for the Zero-Stop NightForce will release next year too.

Re: MRAD Caliber conversion News!!!

I really like my MRAD .338 and hoped they would produce a .260 conversion.
Curious to see if the .300 WM Conversion materializes!

Re: MRAD Caliber conversion News!!!

Well...better late (or REALLY @#$%ing late) than never I suppose!!

Hopefully once the 300WM hits the market then other calibers (especially short actions like .308/.260, etc.) will become available very shortly thereafter.

Re: MRAD Caliber conversion News!!!

It makes me giggle every time I squeeze the trigger on the "Man Cannon" as my buddy has dubbed it!

The initial start up cost of the .338 was a mofo, but I like it none the less!

Re: MRAD Caliber conversion News!!!

A more important question is whether Barrett will make available the necessary tools/parts/schematics so that people can have a smith spin up custom barrels? Some of us with DTA rifles have been going nuts making custom conversions.

Gotta agree with that!

Look what DTA has accomplished by releasing the schematics, barrel extensions, and other parts for the SRS. It has allowed that platform to flourish well beyond the original .308/300WM/.338LM that the rifle was initially based upon.

Re: MRAD Caliber conversion News!!!

I don't think it would take off even with the barrel and bolts.

JMHO

Re: MRAD Caliber conversion News!!!

Hated the bolt throw on the one I played with. Its a little thing, but god damn I love the feel of a well broken in AI bolt.

I emailed barrett a while back (after prob 5 emails with no response) and finally got an answer to the barrel question. They released (i'd say for 48 hours before they removed them for some reason) a 20", 24" and a 27" barrel each for $1100. And they told me Q1 of 2013 but I have yet to see anything from them. Just a waiting game I guess.

I'm thinking of selling mine if anyone is interested. Trades welcome also. Sick of this crap. It's not an MRAD anymore it's an M98 with a folding stock. On a family picture on their web it looks like they're ready for a reality show.

Still have my MRAD and gave up hope of any conversions in my lifetime!!! After shooting a DTA in February, ordered a DTA SRS A1 in 22" 308. Still waiting for it to arrive along with 338 conversion, but I do know it will eventually arrive along with Nightforce BEAST. You really have to be patient or extremely lucky to find something when making a new purchase of almost everything related to this sport!!! Kind of a pain, but most of the time patience is rewarded.

DTA is pretty backlogged right now, but a year ago you could have ordered a rifle and just about any number of conversions without much of a wait if at all. Demand has finally outpaced supply in that regard, but one of the nice things is that if you really wanted a conversion without waiting too long you could just get a bolt, magazine and barrel extension and have a smith make you a barrel conversion. The MRAD guys are stuck with .338LM bolt faces, mags and barrels - no 3rd party option. If anything I would call this an opportunity for someone to make MRAD conversions as an aftermarket product. The danger of course is Barrett suing them out of existence.

I'm keeping my MRAD, but just don't care about the barrel conversions anymore. Also glad I never got the BORS system due to scope limitations and now being outdated with upgrades promised whenever!! Very disappointing after all the hype from the Barrett family. At least I know DTA is solid and listens to what their customers want. Great customers service from what I hear. Would like to go to one of their precision classes once I get my A1 and get her dialed in.

I doubt it yet, but give it some time and I'm sure if the platform becomes more popular with the conversions, someone smith will give it a try. Suspect the like ly conversions would be the 375, 416or even 50 cal. Receiver too big and awkward for 260 or smaller calibers.

Whoa, not even. Starting with a .338LM base as the MRAD evolved from the M98B, it'll easily handle moving down to .308-based cartridges. A .223-based may be difficult from a magazine/feeding aspect, but moving up to larger .408CT or .50BMG-based cartridges is impossible without building a bigger rifle.

Barrett has .260rem and 6.5CM in stock. Insider info tells me that they are available but not on their website yet. I called and order a 6.5 conversion kit for my MRAD. I'll let you know how it goes.
