If you like and understand using a clean .5 mil marked reticle, it is absolutely excellent. One of my favorites for sure. Very visible, great line thickness (fine but not too fine) and I also really like the 3 heavy bars (top and sides) starting at 5 mils out instead of 8 or 10. Don't really use the fine milling "L" often but it is useful sometimes for sure.
I have the MSR in my S&B 5-20x50 Ultra Shorts where I think it is perfect, but don't have it in any other format where exact line thickness may vary (subtensions will still be the same of course). I don't care for any of the variants with the open center, but they exist if you want in some scopes.
I think that if you search around you will find other positive opinions on the MSR, notably from Lowlight. It is a great reticle, especially as a "field" reticle (where I generally prefer .5 marks to .2 marks but everyone is different) and certainly suitable to almost any pursuit.
Some pics below: 3 pics on 20x (100 yard paper and two of some distant Aoudad...around 1300 yards)...focus on reticle in all but of course image excellent to the eye). Last one around 10x with a dead Aoudad around 575-600 yards out (5 mils up and 4 right in the pic). Reticle is very visible through the whole power range, and the bars are very helpful on 5x versus some other thinner options. Subtensions useable at 5x most of the time, at 6x and higher 100%. Note also that as usual everything is much more visible to your eye than it appears in these photos.
You may notice in the pics that when I got this particular Ultra Short the MSR was missing the .5 hash marks on the bottom of the reticle (only had the full mil marks). This is no mark against the reticle as designed of course, just a weird mistake that I got on mine. S&B got this swapped out for me (eventually...we had to wait on the part from Germany...Jerry in VA was great though), but in the meantime I used it plenty, and since I was dialing and the horizontal part had all the marks, it was no big deal. Anyways great reticle, hope that helps (and that the pics worked). Have a good one!
