I am building a Savage 300 WM longish range rifle, I already have the Sav 111, I have a Criterion bull barrel on order from Jim at NSS, a Choate Tactical stock with CDI bottom metal already here, took the gun out yesterday and fired a box of 180 through it. Well it beat the hell out of me with that skinny barrel on it. I am now thinking about putting a brake on the bull barrel, has anyone done this and how much did it help. I have a brake on my 300 wsm Model 70, installed by Dennis n Va from this site, it reduced the recoil to a bit less than a 308 and shoots sub moa easily, just wondering if the benefit of a brake on a bull barrel will be the same or just leave it as a bull only set up? Appreciate any pics if anyone has done this set up already and any thoughts, ideas.
