Hello, has anyone here shot their LMT MWS 16" at night? I am interested in how well the A2 Flash Hider/ Compensator performs on this weapon. I know that muzzle flash varies from load to load as well as environmental conditions. Does anyone have any videos of this weapon firing at night? Thanks in advance.

There is moderate flash from Lithuanian M80 ball I have tried. If full flash suppression is required another device like a Smith Enterprises or AAC is needed, or a can of course.

I ended up with an AAC Brakeout. The carbine's recoil is soft, but I wanted to cut back on the muzzle jumping. The Brakeout took care of that handily as well as cutting recoil down towards 5.56 levels. Flash with the Brakeout is similar to the factory A2 unit.

BTW my MWS has the 16" chrome lined barrel and is a very honest sub minute shooter with Federal 168 gr. GMM or my equivalent hand load using IMR 4895. No flash signature testing to report with these sort of loads, but they were darn good back when I shot M1As, so no concern. But then again, I don't hunt bad guys or pigs, just curious.

I was kind of disappointed with the A2's flash suppression, to be honest. It wasn't nearly as effective as it is on an M-4. I guess that's not exactly a shocking reveal, but I will be looking to replace it with something eventually (not a priority). Prior to shooting it at night, I was perfectly happy to keep it, as I have no interest in a brake, and I liked how short it was. I know from experience that a Smith Vortex will work just fine on shorter .308 guns, but I hate how much longer it is. Guess you can't have it both ways.

I wonder if the M-240 style flash suppressor that the older KAC ECMs came with will thread on to an MWS barrel. Or if you can even get them anywhere.

Im thinking about putting on a SureFire SOCOM 3 Prong Flash Hider. Im told SOCOM has stated it is the best flash hider they have tested.

I recently put a SOCOM on my LMT MWS and it did cut down the muzzle flash as claimed. However trying to time the brake was a nightmare. The Wheel of Misery i the book they supply as I call it that is supposed to tell you what shims you need to time the SOCOM was useless because the shims provided were not the thickness they were supposed to be. I hope they have it corrected or you will be pulling your hair out. I put a query on subguns.com and got a lot of feedback with guys who had the same problem. Eventually I just tightened the brake against the spacer, moved it out to where it was timed. Then measured the gap and went thru the shims until I found the shims I needed. The brake is very effective in flash suppression but the hassle almost drove me crazy.
