My rifle started life as a run of the mill SPS varmint in 308. I wanted to shoot in local matches so I decided to upgrade a bit.
Specs:
Varmint SPS receiver
26" varmint profile Criterion Remage Barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor with precision ground recoil lug
KRG Xray stock with cerakote job by LRI.
Weaver 20MOA rail
American Rifle Company 30mm scope rings
Vortex PST Viper 4-16x50
LRI Cathedral Muzzle brake
Cadex Defense two stage trigger.
Overall very happy with the rifle. A few things I would still like to upgrade, but just small things. I plan on getting the barrel and action cerakoted this year in FDE. The criterion barrel was the best upgrade I made. The stock barrel was void of rifling in a section of the barrel it would group 1" to 1.5" depending on ammo. However I thought a heavy barreled rifle should be capable of more. I am currently getting groups in the .3" range when I do my part. However I haven't shot the rifle in almost a year so getting consistent groups is a little tough.
The KRG stock is amazing. LRI did a great job on the Cerakote. I purchased the stock lightly used from someone I know. The paint job has held up extremely well and the stock looks new. I could not believe the engineering put into this stock. Everything is machined very well. The V-Block bedding system holds the action firmly.
I am really impressed with the ARC rings. The manual said to torque them to 50in/pounds which I thought was excessive, but spoke to other shooters and they said that was what they were made for. You can tell they were made by aerospace engineers.
Nothing really to talk about with the rail. I will probably upgrade to a steel rail in the future.
The Vortex Viper scope is okay. Not my first choice, but got it on sale for $399. Cabela's advertised it wrong and I decided to capitalize. The sale was supposed to be for the second focal plane, however they advertised if for the first focal plane version.
The LRI brake does the job. Maybe a little loud, but it minimizes recoil.
The cadex trigger was given to me. I couldn't find any real reviews out there on it, but can tell you its a damn good trigger. I have it adjusted for 3 pounds. first stage 1 pound second stage 2 pounds. It hits a wall between stages and you know exactly when its going to break. The trigger is also adjustable fore and aft. This way great to put the trigger right in the "sweet spot" for my finger pad. The safety click in and out audibly. You cannot move the trigger at all when the safety is engaged, even through the first stage. The travel of the second stage is also adjustable, but to be honest it was perfect when I installed it. After the trigger broke the trigger does not travel rearward at all. It also has large openings that allows you to maintain the trigger and clean the dirt out easily. You can also see sear engagement when adjusting the trigger.
So now I have a semi custom rifle build and just purchased some hornady dies to reload. So far shot great with factory ammo, 129 american whitetail and 143 grain ELD X. Have about 100 brass saved up and waiting to find some decent powder. I couldn't be any happier with the rifle.
