Hi
These are the first pictures I've taken of my first bolt action rifle. It is primarlliy a fox and small deer rifle.
I bought it all last week and have only just had the chance to break the barrel in (controversial it seems!) I decided to do it as I wanted to cold zero the rifle anyway and I like to take my time cleaning! The groups have been very tight out of the box when using Winchester Silvertip's (55gr). I'm amazed at how flat their trajectory is as well.
I will post some of the groups next time I go out when I'm not so pressed for time.
Current spec as follows:
Rem SPS Varmint in .243
Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50mm Tactical
Millet Tactical rings and base
Reflex T8 Moderator
Harris 6-9" S Bipod
Brock & Norris custom bolt handle
(soon to be replaced by my own custom design)
Polished bolt
As you can see I decided to polish the bolt as the coarse surfce finish on the varmint model makes a rough feel when opening the bolt , polishing has smoothed it right out.
I've scraped the custom bolt handle trying to get it off only to realise that the smith managed to use the wrong thread, meaning my custom 'Bills Bolt Knob' will not attach until some more fettling has been done. If anyone is looking for a totally custom bolt handle I would direct you straight to Bill. He's absolutely brilliant and not very expensive. To get a handle made to my design and shipped to the UK cost a little under £25.
The only thing I'm not so happy about is how high the scope is mounted off the barrel (about half an inch!) but with it any lower the ma'husive T8 moderator gets in the field of view when using the lower magnification at shorter ranges.
The Elite 6500 scope is fantastic and I would highly recommend it.
Next purchase will be a Bell and Carlson Tactical Adjustable Stock (olive drab) along with Badger bottom metal and a 10 round AI magazine.
