I got a Remington 700 308 bedded in a McMillan HTG, everything but the McMillan on the rifle is stock. The person that sold it to me had a load that was 175gr sierra matchking over 40.5 gr's of H4895 he was getting .325 or so MOA at one hundred and about .500 inch at 200 hundred. Well I wanted a round that I could hunt with also. Some people her on the hide told me to try 168gr A-MAX, so I did. The load was 168gr A-MAX over 40.5gr's IMR-4895 OAL of 2.800. It shot .500 MOA at one hundred, I also did 38.5gr's of the same powder and 39.5gr's also they both shot 1 MOA. I also could hit rocks holding over at 600 that where about 6in X 6in. Also hit a rock at 850 yards that was like the size of a truck door, that took me one shot to get on target.

Just wanted to share my loads, if I play with the load more could I get better groups at 100yards? I am happy with what it is now just wondering. I find hand loading really fun and a good way to save money and shoot more

i got bad news for you. it sounds like you are hooked (join the club) reloading for me has become a hobby all in its own

Re: My first hand load.

sounds like your off to a good start . i agree that it might be a good idea to try the 178 a max , also varget . nothing wrong with what youve got . just my .02 , and yes, your now hooked

Re: My first hand load.

Amax are good bullets, however a nosler partition is a little better hunting bullet. But I would stick to what shoots best. Whatever shoots best will allow you to drop your game, by a precision hit.

No doubt their good quality bullets. I know Sierra says not to hunt with their Match Kings, thought Amaxs were in the same boat.

I think for hunting I will use Nosler Accubonds. Thank's for the help, already had it in the works to try varget (IMR-4895) is the only good shooting powder I have ATM. Will post pics of the group when I get home.

Re: My first hand load.

Welcome to a lifetime hobby!! I reload more than I shoot, it has gotten that bad. I like the Nosler bullets in flat base, have always shot well for me in 30 cal. As for IMR 4895, if I had to pick one powder, that would be the one. I have never gotten around to Varget yet, hear it is good. Good luck and sounds like nice shooting.
