I went on my first pdog shoot this past weekend. I had a blast. I took my 243, 300wsm, and my 338LM. Of course the 243 was the workhorse, but I got some good shots in with the 338 and one with the 300. Other rifles on site was another 243, an AR10, AR15's, 22-250, 308, 223. We went to the thriving metropolis of Mobridge, SD. Our "playground" was outside of Timber Lake. We shot Saturday afternoon, Sunday, and Monday morning. We had one guy in the group that was a noob to shooting. He is the owner/CEO of a large jewelry retail store and got the "title" of "Rolex hunters" for the trip. He was a good sport and listened pretty well. He did, at one point forget to put in his ear pro when he shot my 338. I giggled and I think he pissed a little bit. A mistake that I'm sure we've all made at one time or another. I had a few "pink mist" shots with the 338 and many eviscerations. One was with the 300 wsm at only 20 yards. Little bugger won't bark at me anymore. I look forward to going again. I'm also going to look into doing an antelope hunt and maybe a muledeer hunt in the future. Carnage pics are nothing new. Blow aparts, blow outs, headshots, etc. We've seen them before. No need to reinvent the wheel. I would have liked to get some video of the shots, but distance and equipment were the issue. Learning experience and I'll see what happens for the next time.

I'm having trouble imagining the 338lm being fun, but good for you. Nothing makes a trip better than friends.
As long as I have the 338 and go on Pdog shoots, it will go with me. You need to have a spotter with it to be sure. Good times.
I was in that area back in the late nineties and had a blast.
Curious, what was the average distance of your shots, and how many rounds did you burn per day?

Was this a guided trip? It's something I've always wanted to go do, but I'm only starting to really get seriously looking. Any info would be appreciated!
I shot mostly at distance, 200-~700. We shot at on farm on Saturday afternoon from about 3-8:30 or so. Sunday we shot from about 11- 4:30 on a different farm and Monday on the Saturday farm from about 8-11:30. I would say I averaged about 400 yards. For the whole trip, I went through about 225 rounds. We took turns spotting for each other. Terry went through about the same. The 3 "Rolex Hunters" went through about 500 rounds between them(just a guess) and didn't shoot Monday. Rich didn't go through much as he was "babysitting" the Rolex hunters.
We had a guy there that was our contact. He made the calls to the ranchers and got permission to be on the land and then left us alone. We paid him a "finders fee". I'm going to get in touch with him again when I go for a pronghorn hunt and/or mule deer hunts.
Sounds like a good deal. Was this a contact you or a friend had already, or are his services available to others?
As I was just along for the ride, Rich took care of getting the contact. After meeting him on Saturday, I started talking to him about other hunts. I don't know what Rich's relationship is/was with him, and I don't know if he does this for others. It seemed to me that this was something this guy did "on the side". I got another contact for antelope and muley's in a gun shop up there. Might look up some gun shops and such in the area and call and ask if there are some contacts you can make that way. Might also look up some outfitters.
