This is the first tactical type shoot I have entered as there just isn't the interest or maybe will where I live for more .Myself and SH member Chrisf will team up to call shots for each other -I think, and hopefully beat the rest of the field .
I do think that being politically correct and far to aware of this condition is a negative factor for these shoots as well but here we go next month for a blast with an interested shooting crew.
Below are our rules and description of whats required -gotta say a 1 meter target at 1k is wayyyy to big and I would prefer a 1 moa target .
Anyway , whadya all think of the format?
1/ This is a personal invitation for you to attend a Long Range Target Shoot at farms station. This is a casual fun opportunity to “have a go” at further than usual distances. Many of the details are the same as last year. Note the extra event for the Sunday.
ANY rifle, ANY sights, ANY calibre, ANY ammo. All equipment is welcome and everything and everyone competes together. No separate classes or divisions.
Bipods, Tripods, Ropes, Slings, Pulleys, Concrete blocks, etc., are all allowed. You bring it, you carry it, you shoot it.
Entry fee is $75. Optional is an extra $25 per night towards meals, Friday dinner, Saturday meals and Sunday breakfast.
Sighting in at any distance begins Friday afternoon (11 – 02 – 11) from 1200 hrs and continues on Saturday 12th from 0800 hrs until 1100hrs.
Competition begins at 1130 hrs Saturday and should be finished by late evening.
Take Note, We shoot in ANY and ALL weather. There will be NO weather cancellation. February at STATION is usually fine but wind can be variable. I believe it is called “challenging”. In previous years we have had everything from scorching hot sun to howling southerlies, come prepared.
You will need-
Your choice of firearm and ammunition, warm clothing, wet weather gear, a shooting mat, Spotting scope. Food and drink for during the day will be supplied. We will have dinner (or something similar) at my place, Friday and Saturday evenings.
There will be a trophy and prize for 1st place, prizes for 2nd and 3rd places, depending on the number of entries.
If you intend to come, I will need to have your Paid Entry Fee by 8th January, 2011. This event is limited to the First 24 paid entries only.
Some accommodation is available for travellers @ Hotel Hoover.
The first six (or anyone flying in) will find beds available, otherwise you will need;
a sleeping bag and camp stretcher, plus a “fit in” attitude (1st 8 visitors only). Otherwise, there are good motels in Morrinsville and Hamilton.
Camping on the range is OK if you want, a tent or campervan will suit.
There may be rifles available to gun share, what do you need?
Let me know if you need any other details.
I would appreciate a note as early as possible if you intend to come,
Cheers,
harry
CoF
& rules
Event 1. Distance 500 yds. Concept.
There are six targets in a close proximity group, you will engage your designated target with one shot at a time, for a total of 5 shots. Time limit, 15 minutes.
Targets are 315mm hanging steel discs, painted white and are horizontally in line with the shooting position. Scoring will be done by spotting scope from the shooting position with a verifying check when the targets are repainted.
Maximum possible score, 100 points.
For the first shot fired, a hit anywhere on target earns 50 points, a miss earns zero.
Shot 2, a hit earns 20 points, a miss, zero.
Shot 3, a hit earns 15 points, a miss zero.
Shot 4, a hit earns 10 points, a miss zero.
Shot 5, a hit earns 5 points, a miss zero.
A hit on a ‘Friendly” target (ie. Not your own target) earns a 20 point penalty.
Event 1, Rapid. Same shooting position and targets as event 1.
You will have 1 minute to fire 5 shots at your designated target.
10 points per shot on target, Maximum score 50 points. No penalties except your neighbour might gain points from any of your wild shots.
Event 2. Distance 600 meters.
Concept.
There is a rather steep hill on your left hand side, you must climb the hill and find yourself a suitable shooting position from within a marked area. Each shooter must carry all equipment (i.e. Rifle, ammo, shovel, slasher, rope, water bottle, etc.) to the chosen location and will be given 15 minutes to make any site preparations. You may cut scrub or gorse, dig shallow trenches, flatten ground, etc. Once the R/O has determined all squad members have a safe location to shoot from, each shooter will have 2 minutes to engage their designated target with their first shot. After scoring, a further 4 shots will be fired and scored.
Maximum possible score,100 points. 5 shots total. 10 minutes approx.
Scoring and subsequent shots as per event 1.
Please note, the nature of the terrain will make this event a “bit of a challenge”. The same targets as used in event 1, but this time you will be shooting “downhill”, approximately 15 degrees as well as trying to shoot from a steep left handed slope.
If you use a bipod, might I suggest the right leg be about 400 mm longer than the left leg. Or, learn to shoot left handed for this event. It works for me.
Event 2, Rapid.
Same shooting position and targets as event 2.
You will have 1 minute to fire 5 shots at your designated target.
10 points per shot on target, Maximum score 50 points. No penalties apply.
Event 3. Distance 1000 meters.
5 shots, Unlimited time (within reason).
Each shooter will have a figure 12 target on a 1 meter x 1 meter background. Each shooter will engage their target with 5 rounds in their own time. Each shot on target earns 20 points. Shooters will be firing uphill at approximately 10 degrees.
Maximum possible score, 100 points.
Event 3, Rapid.
Same shooting position and targets as event 3.
You will have 1 minute to fire 5 shots at your designated target.
20 points per shot on target, Maximum score 100 points.
Scoring for events 3 & 3 rapid will be done after all 10 rounds have been fired. First 5 shots on a target will be credited to event 3, any subsequent shots will be credited to event 3 rapid.
Event 4. Distance 900 meters.
Concept.
There is a (less) steep hill on your right hand side, you must climb the hill and find yourself a suitable shooting position at the top of the hill. Each shooter must carry all equipment (i.e. Rifle, ammo, shovel, slasher, rope, water bottle, etc) to the chosen location and will be given 10 minutes to make any site preparations. Once the R/O has determined all squad members have a safe location to shoot from, each shooter will have 5 minutes to engage their designated target with their 5 shots.
5 shots total. No Penalties. 5 minutes approx.
Scoring as per event 3.
Please note, the likelihood of cross winds may make this event a “bit of a challenge”. The same targets as used in event 5, but this time you will be shooting “level”.
Maximum possible score, 100 points. At the 2007 event the cross wind at this position was 48kph, no one managed to hit a target. 2008 saw some tracer shots fired as sighters so everyone could see wind direction, etc. You will need to be looking through a scope to see these demonstration shots. In 2009 and 2010, the results were dismal. There’s room for improvement here chaps. If there are drought conditions in February, we may have to re evaluate the use of tracer.
Event 4 Rapid.
Same shooting position and targets as event 4.
You will have 1 minute to fire 5 shots at your designated target.
20 points per shot on target, Maximum score 100 points. No penalties.
Notes
These events are to simulate actual sniper field shooting although to be “politically correct” the shoot will be called a Long Range Precision Target Shoot.
A sniper may be required to fire one shot from a position of concealment at a specified target at a specific location and time. Therefore, our scoring and our targets are designed with this concept in mind. The 600 meter event consists of selecting a firing position on fairly unfavourable ground.
The targets will simulate a group of people, for each shooter only the designated target may be engaged. For each shooter, any nearby targets are to be considered “friendlies” and may not be “harmed”.
Each shooter is given a choice of shooting sites which may need some preparation.
Each squad will observe and score for the following squad.
Anyone willing and able to shoot the entire course of fire in a Ghillie suit will be eligible for a special mention in dispatches. There will be some sort of prize arranged for the best suit.
There will be 40 competition shots, plus a many sighters as you care to let away.
Jungle Lane (Sunday)
If there is sufficient interest, there will be a jungle lane shoot on the Sunday. This event requires you to negotiate a “rough” trail over about 500 meters of jungle, creek, paddock and hill and to engage 25 targets which are located along that trail. The event is physically challenging. You will be supervised by a range officer who hopefully can keep up with you. Scorers and patchers come along at a more sedate pace.
I do think that being politically correct and far to aware of this condition is a negative factor for these shoots as well but here we go next month for a blast with an interested shooting crew.
