I got my last part for my new build today so it was time to put it all together. Now I just need to finish loading some rounds and get out and shoot it. Oh yeah, it's a 308.

Action- Trued up old school 700P (factory teflon coated)
Bolt- Firing pin bushed and threaded for knob done by Gre' Tan rifles with an AZ Precision "marksman" knob
Trigger- Rifles Basix
Barrel- Brux heavy varmint contour with interupted flutes finished at 23 inches
Stock- Manners T4a with mini chassis in dark urban flektarn
Scope- Nightforce 5.5-22x56 NP-R1 in NF rail and MK4 rings

Barrel and action work done by Joel Ackerman.

Re: my new build is done

Thanks guys. Ward, Manners did the paint. I was expecting black as the main color but it showed up this way instead. I actually like it better since it's different than everyone else and I think it will hide dirt better.

Re: my new build is done

That darn Joel still hasn't learned how to run a mill or lathe has he?

That is one nice looking rig. That interrupted fluteing is just cool. Never been a flute guy but may have to reconsider. Too bad you live on the other end of the other Dakota! lol

Re: my new build is done

Very nice rifle sir!

How do you like the rifle basix trigger? I'm looking at that particular trigger for my rifle because of the wide shoe/face of the trigger. Not that i like my Xmark pro but i do like the feel of the wide trigger shoe/face. I'm looking at the timney and RB.

Re: my new build is done

Absolutely digging the interrupted flutes, I can only imagine that's more costly than standard fluting? They really work with the dark urban camo....

Re: my new build is done

I think they are sisters-though I believe yours is the pretty one. Mine shoots really well.Smithed by Randy Fite from my first ever centerfire Remington action which I bought about 1966.Krieger 10 twist finished at 28".Jewell trigger,Manners MCS T5A, Manners bottom metal.
I don't know how to put the picture into the post but here is a link to a picture of mine which looks very similar to yours.

Re: my new build is done

Thanks for the replys, guys. I'm hoping to get out and shoot it for the first time this weekend. I have to go to a wedding on Saturday, but hopefully Sunday I'm not too hung over to go shoot. Also, the road to the range hasn't been plowed once this winter so it could be interesting to get there. I know a couple of weeks ago was completely out of the question.

Blackops, I haven't shot it with the trigger yet, but it seems pretty nice. I have it set right at 1 1/2 lbs and it's pretty consistent.

JCH, I know there's a lot better calibers out there, but I'm planning on starting to shoot comps this year. We only have F class up here, so I'm stuck shooting that. With a 308, it somewhat levels the playing field, caliber wise, since I'll be a beginner. I've already got plans for a 6mm????? for future use.

Jdmartin, I had originally planned on a T5a, but went this route instead. They'd damn near be twin sisters then. Good looking rig you got there, too.

D_Tros, the rings are MK4 highs. I had a set of Seekins highs, but I couldn't get my scope cover on. I just went to Midway to figure out which rings would work best. I wanted Badgers, but they weren't going to be quite high enough so I went with the MK4s instead. They were on sale a couple of weeks ago, and yes, they are the steel ones.

Re: my new build is done

It's a Heavy Varmint contour. 1.25 for 5" then straight taper to .935 at 23". It is a heavy pig! I think Chad Dixon has talked me into the little known 6mm Competition Match. It sounds perfect for what I want to do with it.

Re: my new build is done

Manners told me it would be 15 weeks and it was 15 weeks to the day. The stock was the last part I was waiting on. It just got here on Tues. I've pretty much had everything else in hand or on order since January.

Re: my new build is done-with range report

Well I got out today to finally shoot it. Temp was 45, wind calm, but fog so damn thick I couldn't see to 100 yds. I managed to put 100 rounds through it, but now have to hurry up to get to a wedding. All shots were at 100 yd once the fog started to lift

I had 200 rounds loaded up before, but pulled all of the bullets since it was a max load. I just threw something together quick to break in the barrel. I used the pulled bullets, CCI-200 primers, and 43 gr of Varget(also from the pulled rounds). I think this one has serous potential. My shooting was also pretty rusty since I haven't really done any since last August but I'm pretty happy with the results.

I also saw on here that Lowlight had put up plans for dot shoot. It looked like a good idea so I tried one too. The dots are 1/2 in. I shot from top to bottom, going left to right. The first 2 were misses along with #8. I shot those 3 dots a second time. I couldn't see the bottom row because of the snow bank it was sitting in. If you haven't done a dot drill, do it! It is NOT as easy as it looks.

Re: my new build is done-with range report

Your new build looks really nice! Jugding by the targets it looks like the smith a fine job as well. How does it shoot at ranges past 100 yards?

Enjoy!!!

Re: my new build is done-with range report

Thanks for the kind words guys. I don't know how these old threads get brought up. There hasn't been a post on this thread in months.

Well, I've got over 1000 rounds through her already since May. It shoots pretty damn good past 100. We were shooting pop cans off rock piles at 680 yards with it last weekend. I shot F/TR class with it this summer. I ended up winning the NRA Mid Range Prone Championship in F/TR class at Grand Forks, ND with it this year. I'm pretty happy with that considering it was my first season shooting F-class. Next year I'll be shooting in the Open class. I just got my barreled action back from Chad Dixon for that rig. I'm getting the stock work all finished up right now and then that will go out to a guy in WA to do a custom paint job. I'll post pics of that one in the F-Class section when it gets done.

MSD, I've got a spot about 30 miles from town where my buddies and I can shoot to 900 safely. I've also got a guy from work who lives 2 miles from that spot and depending on crops, we could shoot out to a mile there. I also shoot up at the Forks Rifle Club in Grand Forks.
