I did work up loads with Hornady 58 gr. V-Max bullets with OCW method I learned from the forums here. Had not had a range close to do ladder testing out as far as I'd like, but it is on my to do list now. Was a little dismayed that the most consistent load with a chronograph was not the most accurate round that I tried (insert scratch head icon here). If my calculations are correct they held roughly 1.36 MOA at 500 yards, so I'm not going to complain for a stock rifle. More impressive to me was the 3/4 inch vertical dispersion of the load at 500 yards with 3 rounds fired by 3 different shooters. Not enough rounds to be considered statistically significant, but it seemed pretty impressive to me. I bought a Nightforce 5.5-22x50 scope that is sitting in the gun safe. I have the itch to bolt it on and play, but everyone else has been saying to leave it like it is...after all, I bought it for my son to shoot his first deer with and for me to shoot some 'yotes.
My son realizes that it isn't just a game. He is 10 and has been around guns all of his life. He is shooting trap (and soon skeet) with me, likes shooting pistols and rifles, and respects and handles all firearms with the utmost of safety. I wouldn't have it any other way. He broke 12 trap targets in a row just a week ago and now this. He is giddy about shooting and I have more fun watching him than anything.
