Just got a "product availability notice" from NSS this morning for Hornady 17 HMR rounds. Went to set up an account but when I got to the state selection field AL wasn't there. Called and was told they do not do business in AL, GA, or TN due to having a wholesaler.

Anyone ever seen this before?

In the past year, or two Natchezs' shipping prices have gotten ridiculous. I've switched to Midsouth Shooters Supply for most of my supplies now. Back to the OP, yes Natchez has had that policy for years.

Happened to a buddy of mine about two years ago while he was in B'ham for work for an extended period of time. He'd been a loyal customer of Natchez while a life-long resident of WV but got more than a little bent out of shape when he tried to purchase some ammo with a WV-based CC and have it shipped to his temp address in B'ham since he couldn't readily reload while 700mi from home.

Sadly, that is not an uncommon practice for some large businesses to have "exclusivity" or "do not compete" arrangements built into some of their contracts so that they can't sell to customers directly and potentially undercut their wholesalers, etc., in certain states/areas. However, given the availability of competition at arguably better prices (at least when they have supplies of the product you want/need), Natchez isn't exactly a GREAT place to conduct business any more unless you just happen upon something that's an incredible deal or can't be had elsewhere.

Yeh. Hatchez is a wholesale supplier for lots of dealers in AL, GA & TN. That's why they don't sell directly to customers in those states.

Entirely my fault for not reading the fine print all the way to the bottom where Natchez plainly states that they do not sell to Al, Tn, or Ga. But they had no problem sending the "product availability" notice.

Policies like that help keep the local stores in business.

I have seen that in other areas, where the online supplier is also the wholesaler, and then sells to retail customers at the same price or lower than they sell to retail stores. The stores cannot compete, and go out of business.

OFG champions choice sells hornady 17hmr ammo. It is out of stock at the moment, but it is one of the few choices that they are currently letting people back order.

The first time I ordered from them was back in March. I bought some Wolf MT from them it was back ordered, but I got shipping notice the next day. Then I ordered a case about 2 weeks later it was also back ordered and took about a month to get. They are no longer accepting back orders for the wolf mt. Champions choice DOES NOT charge your credit card till the order is filled and shipped. I would not hesitate recommending them to anybody.

Yes, finding anything ammo related is a challenge. I did get 500 rnds of 17 HMR from Mid South last week. It had been back ordered for 3 months. Now I am hunting 22lr CCI Select. This is almost as much fun as hunting squirrels or deer.
